Summary of Duties:
Independently responsible for planning, developing, and directing activity of custodial department; analyzing the needs for staffing, equipment, and supplies; developing training, procedures; developing the departmental budget; and approving purchases of supplies and equipment within budgetary allocation. Manages custodial services for multiple buildings.
The Custodial Services Manager will administer, supervise, direct and advise on activities involved in custodial services for WSU Spokane Health Sciences. They are responsible for advising and assisting the Campus Facilities Executive, with minimal direction, on all matters pertaining to Custodial Services. The primary purpose is to achieve the goals and objectives of Custodial Services by providing, obtaining, and/or coordinating custodial activities for Campus Facilities.
The Custodial Services Manager will exercise independent judgment and has delegated decision-making authority. They have the duties and responsibilities in the management of custodial services which involves: program management, budget management, personnel administration, and staff supervision. The Manager is a first-line supervisor with total responsibility for a custodial services management, reporting to supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Administration: 25%
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Custodial unit including setting priorities, establishing, and coordinating special projects and events, providing external and internal communications, and ensuring compliance and harmony with the vision of the unit, campus, and university.
Develop, write and manage custodial training and safety programs.
Develop, edit and implement Department Handbook.
Create training material including oral, written, and visual (including video).
Conduct training individually and in groups coordinating with WSU Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S).
Responds to emergency situations where deep cleaning/sanitization is needed. Coordinates snow/ice removal for all campus buildings.
Supervision: 25%
Directly oversee the supervision of all Custodial staff, which includes work allocation, training, corrective action, and problem resolution.
Evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions.
Motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Personnel: 15%
Provide vision, leadership, and direction, training, and development for all Custodial personnel.
Implement and maintain proper personnel practices, policies, and procedures.
Coordinate recruitment efforts.
Interview and make hiring recommendations.
Fiscal Management: 15%
Oversee custodial budget, including expenditure control & purchase of material, equipment, supplies, & training.
Follow established financial regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Forecast annual operating expenses; determine and implement adjustments to meet budgetary targets.
Identify areas of concern and recommend options for new approaches and cost-effective strategies and offerings.
Recycling and Events: 15%
Administer campus recycling program, budget, and services.
Coordinate with campus colleges, departments, and units to administer resources related to campus events.
Other: 5%
Perform other related work as required or requested
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements:
Be available for work from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, Sunday through Thursday, with flexibility as needed.
Successful completion of criminal background check and motor vehicle background check required.
Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate work assignments.
Proven ability to effectively interact with a variety of personalities.
Experience managing budgets and inventory.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
Ability to be on call and work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Current driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to supervise, develop and implement training for custodian staff and effectively manage personnel.
Five years' experience working with Microsoft Office Suite programs.

Monthly Salary: $4061.90 to $5585.10; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
