Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Head Coach Baseball. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. This position will be responsible for management and administration of all phases of the men’s baseball program, student-athletes, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation and conduct of all team-related activities including skill instruction, sport strategy and competitive opportunities.
Provide an overall positive educational environment for our Student-Athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparing them for life beyond college. Supervise, in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, the total academic progress of the team implementing corrective action plans through appropriate staff.
Supervise the recruitment strategy to attract top level, Division I prospects including identification, assessment, campus visits and implementation of campus resources.
Selection, oversight, development, and retention of staff (assistants, graduate assistants and managers).
Monitor and maintain the discipline and conduct of student-athletes to support the image and reputation of the department and university. Responsible for the development, safety and conduct of the student-athletes within the baseball program.
Perform team-related administrative duties such as budget, scheduling, travel arrangements, etc.
Perform both direct and indirect public relations functions including promotion, fund raising, public speaking, community events, and through camps and/or clinics.
Assist with departmental needs as requested; Cash handling responsibilities — $5,000 – $10,000 annually; When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum of five years coaching experience and demonstrated successful coaching experience in Baseball at institution of higher education beyond High School or within Major league or Minor league professional baseball.
Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations.
Demonstrated ability to communicate with and relate well to student-athletes, high school/club coaches and department support staff.
Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining quality student-athletes, particularly at the regional (Midwest) level.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through oral, written and electronic forms.
Additional Requirements:
Have a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference and institutional rules and conduct the program within the regulations. As a staff member within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, you are responsible for knowledge of and compliance with National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations, both those general in nature and those which apply directly to your position’s responsibilities. Strict adherence to all applicable governing policies, procedures, and regulations of the NCAA is required and is a condition of your employment.

Competitive experience in baseball on the university or college level.
Head Coach or Associate Head Coach or Recruiting Coordinator experience
Coaching experience at the Division I college level.
