Job Summary/Overview:

The Bibliographic Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Bibliography department in all facets of daily operation. The Bibliography department acts as a clearinghouse for bibliographic data on the world's botanical literature. A successful Bibliographic Assistant will procure and process data for inclusion into various databases and bibliographic utilities. They will engage in all manner of research, digitization, data-entry, record keeping, foreign language translation/transliteration, and other various clerical duties.

Your core responsibilities will include:

• Research and identify topically pertinent literature for inclusion into departmental databases.
• Create and maintain various bibliographic data within exceptionally strict standards.
• Digitize unique and delicate bibliographic documents and film.
• Assist in the creation of methods and protocols for the preservation and maintenance of electronic data as well as rare and valuable physical media.
• Create content for online presentations and departmental public relations material.
• Assist in the transcription of analogue assets for digital publication.
• Assist in all manner of mechanical editing, frequently of foreign language material and often in non-Latin alphabets.
• Identify and appraise subsets of collection for future processing.
• Assist in the development and design of all new databases.
• Maintain communication and correspondence with onsite staff as well as outside researchers with professional and courteous comportment.

You should demonstrate:

• Some familiarity with Elixir, Phoenix, Ruby on Rails, or Drupal desirable.
• Must be able to type accurately and reasonably quickly.
• Must be able to proofread with a high degree of precision.
• Must be familiar with, or be willing to become familiar with basic concepts of archival preservation and document handling.
