Job Overview
The Assistant Dean of Student Experience is a key member of the Academic Operations team and plays a vital part in working directly with students and stakeholders to assess the needs of the community. They use this knowledge to propose and execute large scale projects to improve the SCS degree student experience; and they represent the Academic Operations Department in student facing work at SCS and in university-wide working groups.
They assess and manage the student experience of more than 20 degree programs - in duties that include but are not limited to strategic implementation of community strategy, resource coordination, external and internal communications, event planning and logistics, and industry partnership development.
As well, the Assistant Dean takes a data and research driven approach to proposing new student initiatives, collecting feedback and measuring resources, using platforms such as Cognos, Looker and My Access to do so. Externally, they meet with students, lead focus groups, and implement surveys to collect qualitative data to complement the qualitative side.
They collaborate closely with the Executive Director of Students and Academic Operations, Assistant Deans, larger Academic Operations department, the Dean's Office, and Admissions teams. Their work leads to ongoing recommendations to the Executive Director of Students and Academic Operations that continually advance the experience of the community school-wide.
Work Interactions
1. Executive Director, Students and Academic Operations - work with the Executive Director, Students and Academic Operations on strategies to advance the department and improve the student experience
2. Assistant and Associate Deans and Faculty Directors - work with assistant deans and faculty directors, getting to know each program intricately, gathering and sharing feedback as part of larger scale project management
3. SCS Academic Operations - work with the department on strategies for community initiatives.
4. SCS Data Team - work with the data team to master SCS systems for student tracking and information
5. SCS Dean's Office team - coordinate on planning, communication and execution of pre-existing and new student facing projects
6. SCS Admissions Team - collaborate on conversion strategies and present those ideas to larger department
7. Students - serve as a direct point of contact for student feedback on their experience.
8. SCS Finance Team - if needed, coordinate with the SCS Finance Team on budget needs of proposals within the larger school budget
Qualifications
Master's degree
At least 3 years of direct student advising or affairs experience
Demonstrated expertise in assessing quantitative and qualitative data and short- and long-term project management.
Experience building administrative and logistical infrastructures for events
Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to interact and influence at all levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across functions, levels and departments toward shared objectives.
Strong writing and communication skills, including comfort with public presentations to a wide range of audiences
Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of staff.
Commitment to the mission of the School of Continuing Studies, and the vision of the Academic Operations department and Dean.
A sense of humor and a desire to work with a variety of people in expanding the work of the SCS
Fluency with Microsoft Office and Google products
