The UC Davis School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Advancement in the School of Medicine.
The Office of Academic Personnel serves as the central personnel office for all academic employees of the UC Davis School of Medicine (SOM), Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing (BIMSON) and UCD Health. The Office of Academic Personnel provides policy analysis, interpretation, and training in academic personnel-related matters. The Office also oversees the processing of all SOM and BIMSON academic personnel actions and is responsible for many personnel related activities, including academic recruitment, appointment, merit and promotion review, UCPath and payroll services, security and system liaison, Academic Cluster Service Channel, Non-Faculty Academic Service Channel, faculty and professional development, external leadership development selection, coaching and mentoring, leaves administration, data analysis and reporting, Health Sciences Compensation Plan administration, academic compliance, conflict of commitment, government relations and childcare, employee and labor relations, and Volunteer Clinical Professor administration.
The Associate Dean for Academic Advancement in the School of Medicine is a key member of the SOM Dean's Office and Academic Personnel Leadership Team and has dual reporting to the SOM Dean and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Personnel for Human Health Sciences.
The incumbent will have 30% administrative responsibilities as Associate Dean for Academic Advancement in the School of Medicine and 70% responsibilities in research, clinical, and/or teaching duties as a full-time faculty member in an Academic Senate series at UC Davis (Regular, In Residence, or Clinical X) in the appropriate academic department.
Specific responsibilities of the Associate Dean for Academic Advancement in the School of Medicine will include:
Work in liaison with the UC Davis Vice Provost of Academic Affairs to ensure alignment and consistency of academic advancement practices as well as collaborative problem solving related to implementation of the Step Plus program.
Participate in building and maintaining an excellent faculty by facilitating and overseeing academic personnel actions (i.e. recruitments, appointments, promotions, and merit advancements) through the University's complex review procedures and ensure that individuals are judged by their peers solely on the basis of professional qualifications in accordance with equitable procedures.
Serve as a resource for information and policy interpretation and training, and guide faculty and administrators in the implementation of policies that impact the appointment and advancement of academic personnel.
Work collaboratively with key School of Medicine leaders and other collaborators, which include the SOM Dean, Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Personnel for Human Health Sciences, Department Chairs in the School of Medicine and UC Davis Vice Provost of Academic Affairs to resolve and/or make recommendations regarding faculty advancement.
