Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Associate Director of Alumni Affairs will help develop and implement a strategic plan for a comprehensive alumni relations program to develop, support, and strengthen relationships among and between alumni and Princetonâ™s School of Public and International Affairs.
The Associate Director of Alumni Affairs will design, organize, and lead/staff events both on and off campus, domestic and international, with the Director/Dean, faculty and alumni speakers, and current SPIA students. The Associate Director will oversee alumni engagement and data management systems to measure alumni engagement.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Help develop a strategic plan for SPIAâ™s alumni community. Set priorities, goals, and oversee the development of a comprehensive program to engage SPIAâ™s dedicated alumni in meaningful ways aimed at fostering lifelong connections.
Plan and execute all alumni events, including special programs, seminars, and domestic and international special events.
Responsible for SPIA reunions including identification and recruitment of reunion program chairs, planning and implementation of the communications plan, promoting/facilitating of attendance and registration, and organizing all programming and logistical aspects of the multi-day event.
In collaboration with SPIAâ™s Public Affairs and Communications office develop an outreach plan for alumni. Cultivate relationships and promote ongoing contact through newsletters, websites, and other materials/publications.
Serve as SPIAâ™s representative on Princetonâ™s Graduate Alumni Relations Roundtable, Grad Futures Professional Development Working Group.
Manage and maintain SPIAâ™s alumni database of approximately over 4000 MPA, MPP, PhD, and AB SPIA alumni. Maintain lists, track updates, and coordinate and update data across various SPIA platforms such as MailChimp.
Serve as the primary alumni affairs liaison and represent SPIA with various internal offices at Princeton including the Princeton Alumni Association and relevant external organizations such as APSIA.
Serve as SPIAâ™s Graduate Annual Giving Director to maximize the effectiveness of all alumni engagement.
Work closely with Graduate Admissions and Career Development Offices on behalf of graduate recruitment, mentoring, and other career-related programming.
This position requires weekend and evening work to attend events as needed. International and domestic travel are also required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelorâ™s degree and 4 years of experience with alumni relations, business, marketing, public relations, communications, event planning, and/or volunteer groups or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to set priorities, establish strategies, and respond to challenges with flexibility.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work effectively with alumni, students, faculty, and other internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Positive can-do attitude. Ability to relate to and have an appreciation of diverse constituents.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Familiarity with Princeton and their programs. Degree in international affairs and/or experience working and living abroad. Proficiency in one or more other languages.
