Willamette Valley Country Club is seeking a highly motivated 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join the maintenance team. Our crew is a long tenured team looking to add another valuable leader. We are looking for the right individual to help us grow our future for the next decade.
Assistants will be involved in the daily maintenance of our 18-hole championship golf course, and will work closely with the Head Superintendent. The Assistant will manage and perform fertilizer/pesticide calibration as well as proper application practices. Daily jobs will include but not limited to course setup, irrigation repair, disease identification, and water management.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent should be a proven operator in the industry, with the ability to lead the Grounds Department in the absence of the Head Superintendent. They will be responsible for the following: the planning and implementation of the budget, development and implementation of agronomic plans, hiring, training, supervision, and execution of golf course maintenance; all while being constantly focused on providing consistently best in class playing conditions.
The selected individual will join our team and play a major role in enhancing our property, its staff, and its reputation. The individual should be positive, self-motivated, hard-working, team-oriented and possess a keen eye for detail.
Active participation in ALL aspects of golf course maintenance; irrigation, chemical/fertilizer, equipment operation/maintenance, administrative, purchasing/budgeting, capital projects/budgeting.
Continual training and education in all aspects of golf course maintenance.
Trains and supervises subordinates in proper and safe operation and maintenance of equipment and tools, with an emphasis on “leading by example”.
Perform other duties as necessary to ensure Willamette Valley CC is maintained to the highest standards.
Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment, supervises pesticide application and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment, and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
The ability to effectively communicate daily to the superintendent, co-workers, and golf shop staff.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports, and maintain effective employee and public relations.
Must have thorough understanding of the game of golf so as to understand the playability of the course.
Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends and some holidays.
Practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
Job Duties:
Assists in planning, laying out and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways.
Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance
Schedules, directs, and supervises employees work involving the use of equipment.
Instructs equipment operators on the safe operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
Assists in keeping records including but not limited to: personnel, inventory and equipment.
Knowledge of planting, pruning, and caring of plants, shrubs, and trees.
Repair and maintenance of irrigation system, including pumps, mainline and lateral piping systems as well as mainline and lateral isolation valves.
Repair and maintenance of various types of irrigation sprinklers, electric valves, etc.
