United Cooperative Services has an open position for a Senior Communications Coordinator in our Burleson Communications Department.
Candidate should have a stable, verifiable work history, with an acceptable MVR. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen is required. The position develops and implements communications materials including, but not limited to, news articles/releases, feature story articles, social media messaging, ad campaigns, newsletters, brochures, digital media and website development. This position plans, coordinates the preparation of material for publication, reviews and evaluates publication material, creates social media campaigns, conducts member and general public education programs, writes articles and editorials, etc.
Creates and develops public information activities including planning, researching, preparing, designing and coordinating the production and materials for internal and external publications (member newsletter, member handbook, annual reports, employee newsletter, pamphlets, media kits, brochures, bill stuffers, newspaper advertisements, public service and announcements).
Implements the branding and image advertising of the cooperative by communicating cooperative objectives in printed media to consumers and employees, policies and procedures to supervisors and employees by establishing a communications and media program.
Interacts with various community/civic groups, schools, youth clubs and other groups to promote goodwill and better understanding of UCS’s purpose, activities and goals.
Build and execute social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification
Generate, edit, publish and regularly share content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action via social media
Set up and optimize company pages within specified platforms to increase the visibility of cooperative’s social content
Moderate all user-generated content in line with the moderation policy for each community
Create editorial calendars and syndication schedules
Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information
Collaborate with other departments to manage reputation, identify key players and coordinate actions
Develops and maintains cooperative website.
Oversees and approves internal and external company documents to carry the UCS logo/mark.
Assist with the planning and execution of member focus groups, community meetings and Annual Meeting.
Maintains publication and photo files for historical reference in hard copy and/or electronic format.

The SeniorCommunications Coordinator shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.
Members and general public – Provides timely and accurate information to promote the Cooperative and its goals.
News media and other public information outlets – Assist in maintaining a flow of information and responding to inquiries either directly or by arranging interviews with the appropriate person(s).
NRECA, TEC, NRTC, and RUS: Assist in maintaining relationships to make sure the Cooperative’s message is consistent with the messages being developed on a national basis. Participates in communications, environmental and legislative activities associated with preserving and protecting the integrity of rural electric cooperatives, their programs and services.
Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Requires a college degree, preferably with an emphasis in communications, journalism, and English. Must have a minimum of five years experience that demonstrates accomplishments in marketing, journalism, communications, media/public relations and working contact with consumers and associated businesses. Some graphic and web design experience would also be preferred, but not required.
Equipment Operated: Must be able to operate computers, video equipment and digital cameras. Must have a current Texas driver’s license without violations that would prohibit insurability.
Abilities and Skills: Familiarity with Associated Press writing style. Working knowledge of desktop publishing (InDesign), Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office. For those with design experience, a working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. Must be able to give, receive and analyze information, prepare written materials, and articulate goals and action plans. Requires ability to effectively present information, orally and written, and respond to questions from clients, customers and general public. Must be able to prepare paperwork with a high degree of accuracy and attention to details. Requires ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Must be able to deal with a variety of people in varying situations with tact and diplomacy.
Physical Effort: Must be able to perform all activities listed in the job description with or without reasonable accommodation. Requires dexterity to operate video equipment, digital cameras, computers, and other office equipment.
Working Conditions: Requires working indoors and outdoors with some irregular hours. Some travel is required inside and outside the cooperative service area.
