The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism seeks to hire a Senior Development Officer, Industry Relations to advance the mission of the Annenberg School by identifying, cultivating and soliciting alumni and industry prospects. The successful candidate will join a high-performing, diverse, and collegial development team and work mostly remotely.
The Senior Development Officer will report to the Executive Director and be charged with developing and implementing strategies for securing philanthropic gifts ranging from $5,000 -$25,000 from a portfolio of alumni and industry prospects. They will be tasked with raising funds to create professional development opportunities for students such as immersive education, fellowships, and internships for students. The ideal candidate will have experience working within the schoolâs industries of practice, be self-motivated and exhibit a commitment to collaborative fundraising. They will possess excellent communication and stewardship skills and demonstrate highly advanced organizational skills to maintain a broad spectrum of relationships. They must have outstanding writing skills and experience developing giving menus, proposals or other forms of written donor communication. They must also show an ability to work independently, and as part of a team, exhibit strategic thinking, sound judgement, initiative, flexibility, and professionalism.
Role & Responsibilities
Oversees, plans, organizes and conducts fundraising for student professional development opportunities.
Identifies, cultivates and maintains relationships with donors and volunteers.
Identifies strategies for donor prospect cultivation. Conducts research to update and expand donor base. Drafts gift or grant proposals for review and/or provides recommendations and assistance to proposal writers.
Writes, edits, and produces fundraising, marketing and stewardship materials. Develops support materials for specific fundraising activities.
Works in partnership with Annenberg Career Services colleagues to advise on programs/curriculum for donor-funded professional development opportunities for students.
Works closely with alumni and industry partners to develop diversity & inclusion pipeline programs (i.e. post graduate diversity fellowships).
Promotes an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creates unbiased opportunities that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
