The Agricultural Communications (Ag Comm) is expected to provide leadership for the Unit which includes seven staff. The Director is the school's top communication position, responsible for the development of communication strategies to enhance the reputations of both the School and Extension locally, nationally, and internationally. Ag Comm's objective is to communicate information developed by faculty, researchers, and specialists to residents in the state, and worldwide.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University's College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (CAES) has a rich history of innovation and application of cutting-edge technology. From our pioneering Laboratory Animal Science and Landscape Architecture programs to our award-winning Cooperative Extension and Agricultural Research programs, our faculty and staff serve today's needs while keeping an eye on the future.
With programs and expertise in such areas as biotechnology, agricultural and biosystems engineering, natural resources management, waste management, and food microbiology, the A&T College of Agriculture grows concurrently with the demand for qualified graduates. Our four academic departments are the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education; the Department of Animal Sciences; the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences; and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design. Within these departments, students will find a myriad of opportunities for classroom learning, research and field work. Through our Agricultural Research Program and our Cooperative Extension Program, we are able to research issues of importance to North Carolina and also provide research-based outreach training to citizens across the state and around the world.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of communications and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which includes three (3) years or more of managerial experience.
The successful candidate must show evidence of demonstrated experience in developing comprehensive communications plans; an experience that demonstrates excellence in producing communications materials; demonstrated experience in public relations, media relations, crisis management, traditional media, and emerging/social media/digital marketing.
Preferred:
Graduate degree in mass communications, agricultural communications, journalism, marketing, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e., Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and ten (10) years of related experience).
Experience with or working in higher education, especially at a Land-grant university, and familiarity with Cooperative Extension and its communication needs.
Knowledge of social media and web-based analytics and their use in content planning, reach and impact assessment.
Background in media and/or public information industries.
Experience as a spokesperson or media director for a large organization.
Knowledge of issues affecting higher education.
