The student experience extends beyond the classroom, and that's where Student Affairs shines. Our teams are organized by four theme areas: health and well-being, identity and inclusion, student leadership and community engagement, and student advocacy. We were brought together and built as Student Affairs just within the past five years to collectively support the whole student. We are seeking a communications manager -a new position- to join our central office team and help lead efforts to clarify, amplify, and engage students in these focus areas. Your role will be to identify where there are gaps or opportunities in communication and to build bridges through planning, process improvement, and creative endeavors.
You will be the planner and the doer, but you won't be doing this work alone. We have teams of people programming, promoting, and paving the way for students to thrive. There are marketers and communicators at various levels in Student Affairs. We are seeking a candidate who can help connect this work; an excellent facilitator who can align people around shared goals; a strong collaborator and influencer to collectively move initiatives forward. Bonus: you will be hiring a student multimedia intern to support this work.
Your canvas will primarily include the Student Affairs website, social media accounts, and a monthly staff newsletter. We also work closely with our campus partners, including University Communications; the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement; Division for Teaching and Learning; and University Housing, to further reach students.
Develops and supervises the execution of communication programs and may supervise personnel and/or other resources in support of institutional or unit communication goals.
10% Manages the day-to-day operational unit plans to align with strategic initiatives and to meet established objectives
25% Plans, writes, and edits content for various internal and external stakeholders
5% Plans and directs unit programs and/or projects to ensure adherence to deadlines and budgets
10% Identifies, proposes, and implements new or revised unit operational policies and procedures
40% Develops, implements, and delivers communication materials through various mediums to designated audiences
10% Facilitates communication planning among Student Affairs colleagues in support of shared strategic goals
Communication Planning -- Work proactively with Student Affairs communicators and other colleagues to identify opportunities for collaboration, coordinate workflow, and establish thoughtful and efficient processes in support of organizational goals.
Social Media - Oversee the creative development and direction of Student Affairs social media accounts in alignment with our brand voice. Create and post engaging, informative, and fun content for students. Develop and lead campaigns as needed.
Website -- Manage the Student Affairs website on WordPress and support the development of subsidiary websites as needed. Define content requirements, gather content from internal and external partners, and perform updates.
Internal Communications -- Maintain editorial calendar, create and deliver content for monthly staff e-newsletter.
Photography/Video -- Manage internal requests for photography and video and outsourcing as needed.
Special Projects -- Assist with development and facilitation of operational plans in support of special projects or campaigns. Support other departments as needed.
