Description:
The writer will be responsible for brainstorming, organizing, and writing all content for a variety of internal and external channels for the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. This will include collaborating with team members, researching topics and subjects, developing content, monitoring the progress of review/approvals, prompting revisions as necessary, and ensuring the process is completed accurately and in a timely manner. The writer will provide a full range of creative writing and editing services in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. They will manage multiple critical projects simultaneously to support the needs of the school, working in collaboration with school stakeholders, Kaiser Permanente partners, and external organizations. The role will also work with team members and agency partners on creative campaigns aligned with business objectives. There will be concurrent projects, so it is critical that the writer is organized, able to update team members on project status, and proactive in project management.
Essential Responsibilities:
Identifies, researches, writes, and edits internal and external communications, including newsletters, media pitches, press releases, media alerts, articles, op eds, quotes, ad copy, crisis responses, thought leadership reports, blog posts, web content, and more.
Receives and fulfills requests for wide range of writing services and content requests from various school stakeholders.
Researches, writes, and reviews communications of a complex or sensitive nature, factchecks and edits documents initiated by others to ensure the look and feel is consistent with branding standards.
Key role in developing new content channels, such as annual report, school newsletters, faculty publication reports, etc.
Editing support as needed, including editing material to enhance visual presentation and edits for grammar, style, punctuation, clarity, and factual consistency with concurrent materials.
Provides advice and guidance on strategic communications to school stakeholders and partners.
Maintains strong collaborative relationships with teammates, school stakeholders, KP partners, and community organizations to develop content and distribute it widely.
Works with the marketing team and agency of record to combine written copy with visual images for advertising campaigns to ensure consistent messaging.
Conducts primary and secondary research, including online research (using search engines and databases), subject-matter expert interviews, meeting attendance, and more to inform well-written, compelling communications.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of experience required in communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations
Education
Bachelors degree required. Preference for degree to be in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field

Additional Requirements:
Create high quality work with a limited number of revisions while meeting set deadlines.
Solid, creative editorial copywriting and copyediting skills.
Proficiency in employing different language styles for different internal and external audiences (e.g. print vs. digital, students vs. academics, etc.).
Proficient with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint); comfortable with online tools and meetings/collaboration spaces.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, last-minute requests, and quick turnarounds while meeting deadlines.
Ability to find creative solutions to workflow processes in a matrixed team environment to enhance efficiency and quality.
Ability to translate complex technical medical and academic topics into customer-focused language.
Effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills to interact with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
Strong self-motivation and drive to succeed.
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through.
Ability to work both collaboratively (i.e. with team members, stakeholders, and subject-matter experts) and independently.
