The Academic Coordinator is responsible coordinating student advising, academic support services, and development needs, as well as, monitoring duties regarding academic progress and continuing eligibility of student-athletes. This individual will work directly with football student-athletes and other assigned teams. They will also have the ability to gain experience supervising a caseload of student/professional workers and also assist overseeing the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and other student-athlete development programs.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors student-athletes academic progress, incorporating current best practices in the profession to empower students to be independent, successful, and confident learners
Provides course advisement, career and personal guidance and educates student-athletes on continuing eligibility rules and personal responsibility
Communicates with coaching staff and various administrator’s through scheduled academic meetings; regularly and promptly shares detailed information regarding the ongoing academic progress of assigned student-athletes
Supervises a small caseload of part-time staff (professional and student) that work with assigned student-athletes
Coordinates development and implementation of individualized evidence-based academic support plan for identified football student-athletes and other assigned teams
Assists with evaluating the academic needs of students and prescribes additional academic assistance as needed.
Meets with prospective student-athletes to discuss the James Thrower Athletic Academic Center vision as it regards student-athletes and the support programs offered at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
Assists with identifying community service, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) projects and the implementation of other student-athlete development programs
Assists with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) with the plan to potentially oversee SAAC
May require additional work with athletic contests, specifically on nights and weekends (i.e. team travel, etc.).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Two (2) years related experience. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding initial and continuing academic eligibility as well as NCAA academic measures. Previous collegiate academic advising experience, including working with football student-athletes. Recent experience with academic support services (study hall, tutoring, learning support, mentoring, etc.). Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution. Two (2) years full-time NCAA Division I academic advising/student services experience (may be a combination of two years of full-time experience with a GA or Intern year) at an NCAA institution working with football and/or men’s basketball student-athletes.

Will gradually gain experience with supervision of a small caseload of student/professional workers
