OFFICE ENGINEERING ASSISTANT: There is currently an open position for Office Engineering Assistant located at our headquarters office in Tahoka, Texas.
REQUIREMENTS: High School Graduate or Equivalent; Accounting skills preferred. Requires the successful completion of a minimum of three (3) years of progressive on-the-job work. Requires continuing orientation and instruction in rural electric job methods and procedures, construction plans, specifications and requirements. Must possess and maintain a valid and current Texas driver’s license. Must live within 25 miles of Tahoka, Texas, within six (6) months of hire.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in staking lines and preparation of staking sheets for all jobs and work orders;
- Prepares, issues, and clears all underground locates for jobs, work orders, and other projects as directed;
- Prepares material pick lists for all type job and work orders on computer generated system (i.e. Partner Staking and NISC ABS);
- Assigns job and work order numbers as directed. Provides monthly retirement/replacement/new install work order numbers to Line Department;
- Tabulates and converts construction units to record units. Assists Plant Accountant in monthly work order closeout procedures;
- Posts additions, removals, and changes to “working map”;
- Maintains original copies of system GIS maps and makes additions, removals, or changes in a neat, clear and concise manner;
- Prepares new map sheets as directed;
- Prepares engineering drawings, graphs, charts, and posters, and does other drafting work as necessary or assigned;
- Maintains records for joint use contracts. Clears all construction details for joint use and notifies Line Department of details of joint construction. Maintains perpetual inventory of all joint contracts;
- Prepares voltage drop calculations as assigned by supervisor. Tabulates this information and prepares map showing all voltage drops;
- Operates transportation equipment as assigned;
- Maintains perpetual records of “as built” staking sheets for all jobs;
- Develops and provides estimates of cost of constructing lines, facilities, and services to new and existing members or the Coordinator of Inside Engineering Services, including contributions in aid to construction;
- Assists in staking of lines and preparation of work orders as necessary or assigned;
- Be familiar with the proper use and care of tools, working equipment, and safety equipment;
- Be familiar with the rules of the National Safety Code and the National Electrical Code and be able to locate and understand these rules;
- Maintains map of load growth;
- Maintains monthly tabulation of transformers used for system improvements;
- Receives communications and directives and orally confirms full understanding. Keeps supervisor informed of important information and happenings;
- Maintains acceptable personal appearance for good member and public relations;
- Subject to call-out. Assists Field Engineering Technicians and/or line crews during major storm outages;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND DEMANDS:
May be required to pass a rigid physical-medical examination and drug test. May be required to undergo periodic check-ups/physicals. Subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
PHYSICAL FACTORS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Inside work predominant, but some outside work may be required. Inside work carried on under good working conditions in well heated, cooled, ventilated, and lighted building. Some strenuous precision work in drafting. Outside work generally not strenuous, but some exposure to weather extremes.
