The University Record is seeking a self-motivated and confident sales representative to share the marketing power of The University Record with U-M units and area businesses. You will work with us for 20-30 hours per week as part of a five-person team. Your skills at independently prioritizing projects will be essential.

Print and online advertising sales experience is desired, but if you have a sales background in another field, many of those skills will apply. You will call on decision makers at local businesses and in campus units to understand their marketing needs and develop advertising proposals that will ensure results. You will manage the account relationship, from potential client identification to creation of monthly billing. You will work closely with the Record’s production coordinator on timely placement of ads in each week’s print edition and on our website, as well as occasional ad construction. You will communicate with conviction about The University Record’s unique value and importance to the campus community. You will report to the University Record editor in collaboration with the associate vice president for public affairs.

• Bachelor’s degree and sales experience.

• Experience with professional communications and presentations.

• Practiced at creating successful selling strategies.

• Commitment to customer service.

• Flexibility to work productively as part of a small team.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Gmail, Google Analytics, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.

• Familiarity with print and online advertising methods and standards of excellence.

• Experience with newsprint pre-press norms and production processes.

Base salary range

$35,000-$45,000 for 20-30 hours per week, plus the opportunity to earn a sales commission.
