Summary of Duties:
The Assistant Director will play a major role in development and implementation of the first comprehensive communication strategy for the Division of Student Affairs in a fast-paced results-driven environment. The position will amplify the role that Student Affairs plays in student success by delivering compelling content and strategy that establishes the brand and reputation both internally and externally. The position is responsible for creating, implementing and measuring communication/public relations plans, including social media strategy, developing a website framework, and collaborating with the Student Affairs Marketing & Communications team on campaign development. The position will have oversight over a budget to conduct work necessary to meet goals, and full-time direct reports along with part-time student staff. The Assistant Director will work effectively with the diverse teams within Student Affairs to build consensus and collaborate on efforts to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community.
Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least one (1) year of managerial experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment. Positions may require applicable licensure and/or certification.
Demonstrated experience in media relations.
Experience working with a variety of social media platforms in a professional, educational or business environment.
Master's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business or related field.
Candidate must demonstrate a strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, error free work.
As a newly created position working in a recently centralized marketing unit serving the Division of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director is expected to be self-motivated and thoroughly enjoy developing new processes and implementing new plans that use various communication channels.
A successful candidate will have experience using integrated marketing and communication methods in creating and implementing a communication plan and strategy, extensive written communication, campaign development, and ability to generate content to be used on many platforms.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, methods and application of brand development.
Demonstrated competency in strategically advancing institutional diversity, equity and inclusion through communication methods.
Superb oral communication skills and written communication skills using of AP style writing.
