Position Overview:
We’re expanding our team and looking for an experienced and dynamic Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications to lead initiatives that drive enrollment, retention, alumni engagement and school spirit. As a strategic advisor to the school, you will be a visible leader with the opportunity to shape the strategic positioning of the school and bring a Léman education to life in a meaningful and impactful way. You’ll serve as a champion for the Léman brand and tell our school’s story across a range of communications including social, video, advertising, newsletters, special events, and public relations. Partnering closely with Admissions team members, you will use your creativity and digital skills to deliver compelling communications to families at various touch points in the admissions process to drive enrollment among families aligned with Léman’s mission.
This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports to the Head of Communications & Enrollment Management. The Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications is part of a 10-person Enrollment Management team that also includes six admissions professionals, a Digital Communications Coordinator, and an Admissions & Communications Assistant.
Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:
- Strategic Advertising & PR: Help develop and manage an inquiry generation plan that builds awareness for our school, generates interest from prospective families for school and summer camp, and positions Léman as a thought leader. Manage marketing and communications budget, outside service partners and results reporting.
- Editorial and Written Communications: Partner closely with Admissions team members to develop communications to admissions families that highlight the unique attributes of a Léman education and camp programs. Support Head of School, other school leaders, parent association and alumni leadership with school-wide and divisional news and announcements. Serve as editor-in-chief of school newsletter and official school publications to ensure ongoing school communications uphold Léman’s brand voice and school positioning.
- Digital Storytelling & Content Creation: Identify moments and initiatives at Léman that convey our school’s mission, values and sense of community. Create impactful written, photographic and digital communications for a broad range of audiences, including current families, prospective families, faculty and staff, alumni and the general public. Partner with school leaders across departments (Mathematics, Athletics, Fine Arts, World Language, Science, Camp, After-School, Parent Association, Alumni, etc.) to report on news and developments that differentiate Léman.
- Social & Web Strategy: Lead Léman’s social media accounts to grow the school’s visibility and drive interest from prospective families. Sharing news and developments that reflect our school’s spirit and progra. Ensure coverage of a broad range of events and initiatives that highlight our comprehensive program from preschool through high school. Oversee content strategy for school website, including proactive leadership of ongoing content and functionality updates that attract prospective families and serve the needs of our school community.
- Special Events & Project Management: Help concept school events, ranging from speaker series, admissions events, family days, alumni events, community service and more, that underscore Léman’s value proposition, engage our community, and attract new families. Lead marketing and promotion for events and support logistics and event success.
- Data and Measurement: Take a metrics-driven and goal orientated approach to content creation and ongoing communications that drives readership, engagement, inquiry volume and enrollment. Set and measure progress against goals and display commitment to continuous improvement to drive our school forward.
- Other duties as assigned by the department head.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10+ years of experience in an independent school environment or similar setting
- Familiarity with the NYC private school landscape
- Engaged, effective spokesperson and community leader
- Demonstrated success using strategic communications to drive business results
- Strong manager of people and service partners
- Passion for storytelling and brand position with creativity
- Skilled social media content creator; knowledgeable about social tools and trends to drive engagement
- Strong photography, videography and graphic design experience
- Data-driven and able to set specific goals and measure effectiveness
- Excellent project management skills and flexibility to manage multiple initiatives at the same time and change priorities as needed
- Service-oriented and accommodating disposition and able to collaborate with individuals across functions and levels
- Tech-savvy and proficient with all Google Suite applications and MS Office
- Able to attend evening and weekend school events as needed
