UW Medical Center - Montlake currently has an outstanding opportunity for a FISCAL SPECIALIST 2.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Calculates and processes employee payroll for large department. This includes doing everything to make sure our employees are paid accurately. Counsels employees on payroll matters. Maintains accurate payroll and leave records. Ensures compliance with University payroll policies. Coordinates and handles confidential information pertaining to personnel performance matters, labor relations, salary information, family medical leave, risk management, sick leave buy back and a variety of other payroll and benefit related matters. Counts and reconciles cafeteria cash daily. Provides accurate audit trails. Submits accurate cash reports to Cashier's Office. Processes invoices and purchase orders for payment of department food and supply purchases. Provides end of the month statistics to be used in monthly billing reports. Maintains excellent public relations for Nutrition Services. Assists with customer comments and concerns. Establishes effective working relationships with other departments and actively promotes quality customer services. Behaves professionally and ethically in interactions with others. Treats individuals including patients, co-workers, supervisors, management, patient families, physicians, volunteers, and visitors with respect, dignity and fairness. Demonstrates effective and appropriate critical thinking skills and decision-making abilities consistent with UWMC mission and values. When necessary assists Manager in the following duties, and other duties that may arise. Extends pricing of catering orders, answers catering customer inquiries and when necessary directs questions and problems to catering manager. Assists with accurately scheduling Plaza Café conference rooms for customers. Assists with departmental Xeroxing and/or duplication. Assist with distribution of department mail. Assists with word processing departmental material. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned. Demonstrates fiscal accountability and accurate, timely and complete departmental payroll and personnel records in compliance with UW payroll policies and procedures. Prepares accurate fiscal reports, records and audit trails. Demonstrates professional and effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates effective and appropriate critical thinking skills and decision-making Establishes effective working relationships with other departments and actively promotes quality customer services for Nutrition Services. Performs areas of responsibility consistent with UWMC and departmental vision, mission and values.Responsible for processing accurate and complete payroll for approximately 190 employees, daily cash reconciliation, maintenance of departmental personnel files, payment of food and supply bills, and providing information and public relations for the UWMC department of Nutrition Services.
Requirements: Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist I AND 15 quarter hours or 10 semester hours of college level accounting, or equivalent education/experience. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Desired: Experience with Kronos timekeeping system and Workday payroll system. Understanding of University of Washington pay practices and at least two years experience working with UW payroll systems. Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel, with solid experience creating spreadsheets and formulas, manipulating and summarizing data. Familiarity with Microsoft Access. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to maintain excellent working relationships. Ability to work well independently and as part of a team. Must be highly organized and manage time effectively. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to attend to detail and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy. Flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks or special projects. Understanding of basic accounting principles. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.
