DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Position Function/Summary: Coordinate publicity for the assigned sports of women’s basketball and softball and assist in publicity for departmental activities. Create materials to promote sports on website and social channels, assist media in coverage of assigned teams, and assist with game management tasks.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Work under general supervision and be responsible for assisting in the daily management and coordination of publicizing departmental activities.
Coordinate all publicity (press releases, media notes, programs, statistics and records) for assigned sports, including writing feature stories for departmental and University publications.
Team Social Media
Update FightingIllini.com regularly and manage social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, et al) for assigned sports and departmental as a whole, engaging fan base and providing immediate informational updates.
Team Historical Information
Serve as historian for assigned sports and department as a whole archiving season information, both digitally and in printed form.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, sport management, marketing, English, or a related field.
Two years of professional experience working in the athletic communications/sports information field.
Demonstrated work experience in athletic public relations.
Extensive computer/software knowledge and graphics arts skills
Proficiency in desktop publishing software applications such as InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite
Proficiency in social media management and content production, scheduling and planning
Proficiency with statistical programs such as NCAA Live Stats (Genius) and Stat Crew
Familiarity with content management systems such as Sidearm.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules as they relate to this position.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends Environmental Demands:
Travel with sports teams, as assigned, to report results and event information for local media.

This is a full-time Athletic Communication Association position appointed on a -month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary will be commensurate with experience
