Position Summary: The Assistant Director of Development is a professional fundraising position for the Green Wave Club. The Assistant Director identifies prospective donors, cultivates donor relationships, and solicits donations or gifts from individuals, corporations, or foundations. This position stewards Athletics’ donors and prospective donors. The Assistant Director is involved with all aspects of generating private donor support for Tulane Athletics. This position works closely with Central Development and athletic leadership.
Essential Functions:
1. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits annual fund and major gift donations or monetary giving commitments from donors. Maintains a monthly minimum level of appointments or calls. Monitors activities to determine effectiveness and maximize contributions. Personally, visits donors as directed or as appropriate in an effort to promote fundraising efforts and coordinates with supervisor when necessary. (55%)
2. Maintains daily internal operations and project management at the assignment of the Assistant Athletic Director of Development. (40%)
3. Perform other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description. (5%)
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1 year of direct fundraising or transferable experience (marketing, admissions, public relations, alumni relations, volunteer management, or sales experience)
OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 7 years of directly related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:
- Experience writing and preparing fundraising solicitations and gift proposals
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication, public speaking and presentation skills
- Excellent organizational skills, to include the ability to prioritize projects and meet established deadlines
- Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary in the performance of assigned duties is required
- Must have the ability to demonstrate uncompromised judgment and discretion with regard to interpersonal relationships both internally and externally
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and use upmost discretion when privy to sensitive information
- Must have truly outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes, perspective donors, external constituencies, and vendors
- Proven ability to multi-task effectively
- Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and other software necessary to the development operation
- Travel with sport teams for away
- Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American Athletic Conference rules and
Preferred Qualifications:
- College athletics fundraising experience
- Working knowledge of Advance and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
NCAA Related:
Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
