Summary of Job Description:
Reporting to the Board President, the Executive Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for Recovery International’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission as established by the Board of Directors. This responsibility includes maintaining RI’s fiscal and operational integrity along with managing and juggling the needs of day-to-day aspects of a small business including human resources, fundraising, programming, and marketing. Specific job responsibilities include, but are not
limited to, the following:
a. Fiscal Management:
Upon final approval by the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for meeting all corporate and legal financial obligations. The Executive Director will:
- Work with the Finance Committee and Board of Directors to develop, recommend, and monitor annual budgets
- Work with the accountant to administer and track organizational and individual program budgets
- Ensure compliance with audit recommendations
- Approve expenditures
- Submit monthly financial statements to the Finance Committee and Board
- Engage in long-range financial planning and forecasting
b. Fundraising:
The Executive Director provides leadership in all fundraising activities. Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director identifies, builds, and maintains positive relationships with individuals, corporate, and foundation donors. The Executive Director will:
- Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and strategic plans while simultaneously retiring building debt.
- Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
- With the Finance Committee, set the annual development goals to meet budgetary needs and develop strategies to meet goals.
- Ensure effective development and implementation of fundraising plans and initiatives, including generating government and foundations support and national campaigns.
- Provide staff support to the Board, its Finance Committee, and volunteers in fundraising efforts.
- Ensure that grant opportunities are routinely monitored, and grant applications and funding proposals are prepared and submitted as appropriate, keeping the Board informed as to the grant contents.
c. Management & Administration:
The Executive Director ensures professional management of RI offices and programs. The Executive Director will:
- Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
- In conjunction with the Board, develop and implement organizational goals and objectives consistent with the mission and vision of RI.
- Develop and administer operational policies.
- Oversee all programs to ensure that program and fiscal objectives are met.
- Develop and maintain regular communications with large volunteer base.
- Ensure compliance with funding sources and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure monitoring and evaluation of RI programs.
- Ensure adequate levels of insurance coverage.
d. Human Resources:
The Executive Director creates and nurtures a positive, fair, and productive work culture for staff members and volunteers. The Executive Director will:
- Actively engage and energize RI volunteers, board members, committees, members, partnering organizations, and funders. ? Hire all RI staff based on fair hiring practices and regulations.
- Administer Board-approved personnel policies.
- Oversee all disciplinary actions and when necessary, terminate staff members according to guidelines and regulations.
- Supervise and evaluate all staff, conducting reviews on a regular basis.
- Create high levels of staff performance through effective leadership.
- When necessary, restructure staff positions according to budgetary or programmatic needs.
e. Board Relations:
The Executive Director is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will:
- Assist the Board President in planning the agenda and materials for board meetings.
- Initiate and assist in developing policy recommendations and in setting priorities.
- Facilitate orientation of new board members.
- Staff Board Committees as appropriate and ensure staff support to each committee.
- Provide assistance in the implementation of Board and Committee decisions.
f. External Relations & Marketing:
The Executive Director advances awareness of RI's mission and programs to engage, expand and diversify participation. The Executive Director will:
- Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to external relations with the goal of creating a stronger brand.
- Develop and oversee marketing plans for RI and its programs, including setting the marketing budget and ensuring consistent, accurate communications through all marketing platforms.
- Serve as liaison with outside groups and individuals, initiating collaborative projects to build awareness and fruitful relationships.
- Represent RI at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences, and participate on appropriate panels and committees.
- Build external relationships and be an advocate for RI.
- Ensure standards of quality and consistency for design, copy and content of printed and media communications.
- Expand the reach of all RI programs.
Qualifications:
The Executive Director will be thoroughly committed to RI’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience that can be verified with provided references. Specific requirements include:
Education:
- Minimum requirements are Master’s degree or equivalent in the mental health field (preferred) or nonprofit management.
- Please include your professional credentials/certifications that may lend themselves to this position.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as non-profit Executive Director or Chief Executive Officer is required
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience in fundraising, finance, human resources, marketing, and/or program development is required
- Experience in social work, mental health field, or similar discipline preferred
- Experience with databases; NEON CRM or Salesforce database experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of software products (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Outlook) required
- Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
- Fostering an outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
- Proven record as a successful fundraiser
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
