Position Summary:
The NACD Manager, Public Affairs and Digital Media provides media and communications support for the Association specifically: regular communications and relationship building with the media and industry contacts, press releases and media advisories, and advocacy communications support. This position also offers valuable experience in website content management and development, SEO and SEM execution, digital advertising, and development of social media content and marketing collateral. The position works regularly with other members of the communications and government affairs teams and reports directly to the Director, Communication.
Percentage Breakdown of Responsibilities:
40% - Media relations activities
30% - General association communications activities
15% - Social media content development, monitoring, and strategy implementation
10% - Speech Writing
5% - Special Projects as assigned
Communications Responsibilities:
The manager will support the Association’s media; industry and general public communications activities to effectively spread the association’s message. This position will have responsibility for producing regular communications to the media and general public via a variety of methods and mechanisms. He/she will be forward thinking, have strong written and oral communications skills, customer service and should have proven Digital Content Management experience.
- Manage media relations activity on NACD issues, including but not limited to:
- Assisting in development of media relations strategies and plans to advance the association’s advocacy and policy issues.
- Writing and/or editing media relations deliverables, including press releases, media alerts, position statements, blogs, social media content, and/or letters to the editor.
- Cultivate relationships with media outlets and work to secure more stories in the press for NACD and its membership. Research targets for editorial publications and determine schedules for outreach. Schedule interviews and general press activities.
- Track media exposure and analyze successes
- Develop, manage, and execute multi-audience, multi-channel communications campaigns
- Digital content creation: blog, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
- Executing tactical and creative PR projects utilizing a variety of skills and mediums
- Primary media contact for NACD, providing relevant data to NACD team members, reporters, and industry stakeholders
- Write speeches and prepare presentations for Executive Committee / President
- Assist in developing video content for the Association’s various events
Qualifications:
- 5-7 years’ experience, minimum of bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism, marketing, or political science
- Knowledge of and/or experience with public relations and marketing functions
- Excellent written and in person communication skills
- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail
- Experience with HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, and SEO/SEM desired
- Thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- A self-motivated work ethic
- Some travel required
- Hybrid work environment whereby some days are required in the office every week and some are at-home/remote
