Job duties include:
Assist the Director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau in the overall management and supervision of comprehensive sales and marketing programs for the maintenance and expansion of the City's national Meetings & Conventions, Tourism, and Services in order to increase convention and visitor expenditures, tax revenues and employment. Strategically lead team(s) of M&C/Tourism/Services professionals to develop appropriate budgets and achieve sales goals related to each targeted market segment.
Act as liaison with Meetings & Conventions/Tourism/Services related businesses and organizations to enhance communications within the industry and improve the quality of the City's hospitality industry.
Directly responsible for the coordination and administration of marketing and sales operating budgets for the meeting/convention and tourism markets to effectively achieve all program objectives; develop sales and marketing priorities, goals and expected outcomes; and develop and utilize effective performance indicators and metrics to adjust strategies, goals, and expected outcomes, as needed. Monitor and manage divisional budget: forecasting/projections, financial analyses, procurement with the ability to account for expenditures and encumbrances.
Develop advertising and marketing plans as related to meetings/conventions and tourism markets. Direct the participation, representation and promotion of the City at appropriate meeting/convention and tourism market trade shows to stimulate additional private business and City revenue through increased spending in Virginia Beach.
Develop and direct familiarization tours/site visits for qualified potential convention and tourism customers to introduce the City in various markets; responsible for all elements of familiarization tours/site visits including budgeting, planning, recruiting, logistics, event operations, and follow up to evaluate the City's competitiveness in securing M&C/Tourism business, and to further promote Virginia Beach as a desirable destination for these types of meetings and events.
Utilize reporting functions of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technology platforms and other available resources to develop comprehensive reports detailing all activities and results of the M&C/Tourism/Services team for internal and external purposes on a regular (monthly/quarterly/annual} basis.
Work with other CVB Division Heads on M&C/Tourism/Services related items and projects (i.e. Marketing/Public Relations, Convention Center, Sports Marketing, etc.) in order to fully develop all potential opportunities to expand Virginia Beach as a year-round destination for the future.
Perform special projects assigned by Department Director.

Any combination of education (above the high school level) and experience equivalent to ten (10) years in fields related to hospitality/tourism/destination group sales, marketing, or public relations, which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Preferences: Degree in marketing, tourism, business administration, management, or related field; leadership experience in M&C/Tourism with a destination marketing organization (DMO); demonstrated record of sales success; extremely strong presentation skills; experience effectively managing all components of an M&C / Tourism budget, including working with contracted advertising agencies. Experience with organization comparable in size and/or budget of CVB (or hotel) in previous roles.
Ideal candidate offers a robust knowledge of the hospitality industry and its terminology; a proven understanding of DMO's, all meeting/convention market segments, tourism, convention & visitor services, convention centers, hotels, and other hospitality-related venues.
Ideal candidates for this position will be able to discuss their involvement and responsibilities associated with specific, high-profile national events.
Works effectively with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Graphics, Power Point, Outlook) Exp with Simpleview CRM or other related software. Understands the relationship between technology and sales organizations.
