The Office of Research is seeking a Specialist for Strategic Research Development. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Specialist for Strategic Research Development (Spec SRD) will assist in expanding and promoting awareness of limited submission and large funding opportunities of $1M or more that are relevant to OSU as an R1 Institution. The Spec SRD will work with the Director of Transdisciplinary Research Impact and Advancement (Dir TRIA) to manage various OSU Strategic Research Development initiatives and programs that facilitate and train (new) faculty to become more competitive in securing extramural funding and will assist to identify and develop large-scale transdisciplinary proposals and projects of strategic importance to OSU. The Spec SRD will report to the Senior Advisor for the Vice President of Research (SAVPR).
The Spec SRD will have on-going familiarity with research funding opportunities utilizing funding databases, federal agency websites, peer institutions' websites and other resources to identify major funding opportunities. The Spec SRD will manage the limited submission database and internal proposal review processes, will design/update the OSU Research Development website and proposal success dashboards, and will assist the Senior Advisor for the Vice President of Research (SAVPR) and Dir TRIA with various SRD related projects and programs at OSU, reporting, and in gathering and vetting project ideas from faculty to pitch to external sponsors. The Spec SRD will assist the Dir TRIA by pro-actively collaborating with college-based pre-award support staff and seeking out cooperation with other Research Office units from peer institutions to facilitate proposal development of both large-scale across-college and inter-institutional projects.
Key responsibilities include coordinating analysis and planning of proposals, managing proposal development and schedules, and writing non-technical and institutional proposal sections. The Spec SRD will contribute to the new OSU Research Impact and Advancement Academy (RIAA) by providing proposal development expertise and knowhow, by delivering or contributing to courses on grant readiness and competitiveness, by helping to establish a transdisciplinary research culture that catalyzes novel 'blue sky' ideas for future grants and that advances OSU Strategic Plan 4.0 priorities, and by working with faculty, the Research Council, ADRs, and Center and Institute directors in organizing reviews, collecting data, information, etc.
Typically requires Master's Degree in field relevant to program focus.
· Bachelor's degree in science-related field, communications, journalism, English, education, or closely related field.
· At least three years of experience in research administration and research organizational development.
· Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in the research enterprise.
· Ability to develop and foster intra- and inter-institutional and inter-organizational research partnerships with a wide variety of university constituencies.
· Ability to work productively across academic and non-academic units, colleges, administration, etc.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
This position will be required to work primarily on campus. There may be some flexibility to allow for a hybrid work arrangement, with prior supervisor approval.
