The Office of the Senior Vice President for External Relations for the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) has an exciting opportunity for a Media and Public Relations Specialist OR Senior Media and Public Relations Specialist . Employees in the media and public relations category work to inform the public of the University's mission, policies, and practices in a positive, consistent, and creative manner through various media outlets. The selected incumbent will fill this position commensurate with education and experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES - Media and Public Relations Specialist:

Creates public informational materials to target audiences for business unit communications, including multimedia content for use on the web and social media sites.
Develops, writes, and edits press releases and other communications materials. Interacts with media relations outlets to provide stories to elevate the awareness of the University. Spots media trending and prepares responses as needed.
Contributes to production and distribution of public informational materials to a target audience using social and multi-media, such as e-newsletters, publication, website content, and magazine.
Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes tributes information materials to print, broadcast, and on-line media outlets. Maintains printed inventory, databases, and digital archives.
Reacts to and interacts with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, pitches university programs and activities, and responds to media inquiries.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Reacts to/and interacts with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, pitches university programs and activities, and responds to media inquiries.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Media and Public Relations Specialist:

Education: Bachelor's degree, such as English, fine arts, marketing, media, communications, etc.

Experience: Two (2) years of related communications, marketing, media, public or client relations experience.

Supervisory Experience: N/A.

Certification/Licensure: N/A.

Other: N/A.

Hiring Ranges:

Media and Public Relations Specialist: Mid to High 60's (Commensurate with education and experience).

Senior Media and Public Relations Specialist: Low to Mid 70's (Commensurate with education and experience).
