Education Support Services (ESS), in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), provides world-class audiovisual and instructional support, training, and consulting services to faculty, staff, students. The team supports the school's mission by delivering premium technology offerings that enhance and creatively advance the teaching & learning environment.
ESS is comprised of six service groups: Assistive Technology Center, Piano Technical Services, the Language Center, Teaching. & Learning Support, Design & Engineering, and Event & Media Production. This role will be a part of the Teaching & Learning Support team.
This position is responsible for producing high quality media materials and presentations (shooting video and capturing audio in studio and on location and performing post-production, i.e., editing, color grading, sound mixing, mastering, and file encoding) to deliver high-quality audio and video products and customer/audience experiences.
In-studio Video/Audio:
Pre-Production Work
- Independently responsible for composition, and set of equipment for effective presentation
- Set up and operate teleprompters and/or talent/producer video monitors and audio talkback as needed; set up and level camera(s) and camera supports and select appropriate lensing and set exposure, color profile
- Configure studio using seating, music/laptop/script stands for effective capture of sources (voice-over, podcasting, remote calls, musical instruments, complex audio mix for simultaneous video shoot)
- Select and deploy/position appropriate microphones for capture of sources; route signals, and set up and operate digital mixing console setting audio levels, equalization, and dynamics; route foldback/cue mix(es) signals to headphones or speakers including mix-minus situations
- Route signals as necessary to produce multitrack recording and mix products; review and ensure safe set for talent, clients, and crew
- Recording codec and format for proper capture; route video signals, set up and operate switcher for multiple cameras/laptops; select and deploy/position proper microphones per situation, set audio levels, equalization and dynamics as needed; route audio signals and operate digital mixing console as needed
- Set-up and test control to studio; review and ensure safe set for talent, clients, and crew; greet/prepare talent/client production team for shoot; actively operate camera(s) (compose shot, pan/tilt/zoom/focus) per role
Production
- Autonomously directs talent, and other crew members during shoot as role requires and advise client production team as needed
- Actively mix sources to produce reference/final mix during session; at conclusion of session, transfer files to storage and properly name files for easy retrieval/post, produce, and retain session notes/documentation as needed for post or reproducing session, strike equipment and clear studio to normal
Post-Production
- At conclusion, transfer footage from all cameras and recorders to storage and properly name files for easy retrieval/post, produce; retain session notes/documentation as needed for post or reproducing shoot, strike equipment and clear studio to normal
On Location Video/Audio:
Pre-production:
- Work directly with client, manager and/or production coordinator to plan effective capture and/or presentation of client's event/materials. For complex productions, manager or crew lead will present completed planning documentation for review/feedback
Production
- Working from pre-production notes, select, pack, and safely transport equipment needed; at location determine position, set up, level, and deploy camera(s) and camera supports
- Select appropriate lensing and set exposure, color profile, recording codec and format for proper capture; set up monitors and recorders and format media as necessary
- Set up communications as needed; review and ensure safe location for clients, audience, and crew
- Set-up, deploy, tune, and actively operate equipment for optimum sound and to facilitate stage changes, show flow, and to ensure a safe environment for talent, audience, and crew
- Greet client; discuss event/shoot parameters and camera deployments; direct crew and talent
- During event/shoot, actively operate camera(s) (compose shot) and communicate per role; produce and retain session notes/documentation for post or reproducing session; actively mix Front of House /monitors and/or recording per role
- At conclusion, strike equipment and return location to normal; after load-in, transfer all media to storage
Post-production
- Edit, color grade, produce graphics and animation, sound mix, master, and encode product files from MPC-generated multi-cam footage/multi-track audio and client-provided materials
- Manage own media files on local and central storage; report time spent on jobs in scheduling database
- Digitize and transfer legacy media; research and acquire skills for new technologies for future deployment as directed by the manager
This is an 18-month term position.

- At least three years of relevant experience
- A minimum of two years of college or technical school; education beyond high school may count toward experience
- Thorough knowledge of the use and design of media equipment and systems and the ability to educate and communicate with a diverse customer base about complex technology applications
- Previous leadership or coordinating experience helpful
