Job Description:
- Working under the supervision of the AV Systems Engineer & Designer, assists with all stages of AV installations for central-pool classrooms, coordinating with internal and external resources as needed.
- Assists with development and maintenance of both point of service and online documentation for AV systems in central pool classrooms.
- Assists AV Systems Engineer & Designer with basic user training and orientations for any supported central-pool classrooms.
- Helps maintain AV control system standards across all central-pool classrooms, making adjustments for special needs or to increase usability as needed.
- Assists AV Systems Engineer & Designer with troubleshooting, testing, and replacing AV system components, as needed, in supported spaces.
- Assists AV Systems Engineer & Designer as an AV consultant and engineer for registrar classroom AV deployments and other AV consulting projects across the University, while following the Universityâ™s AV Standards.
- Consults on special University projects as needed, such as new building AV design or AV renovation projects.
- Assists with maintaining the University AV Standards and hardware documentation.
- Assists in creating and writing project bid documentation, negotiating with vendors to obtain competitive quotes, and to determine cost-effective equipment.
- Responsible for Tier 2 AV Services support in central-pool classrooms or other supported teaching and learning spaces across the University.
- Works closely with the AV Services team on service coordination to make sure maintenance is minimally disruptive to teaching and learning activities.
- Helps coordinate service and maintenance tasks with the AV Services team and 3rd party vendors as needed.
- Under the guidance of the AV Systems Engineer & Designer, assists with AV control system maintenance (software and firmware updates).
- Assists with ad hoc AV projects for special meetings or events as needed.
- Assists the AV Services team with special projects, events, or quarterly maintenance as needed.
- During high demand periods, assists AV techs with AV service calls for assistance in central-pool classrooms
- Participates in design and implementation of AV systems.Â
- Performs hands-on AV component installation, replacement, configuration, firmware updates, and troubleshooting using existing procedures to solve routine problems.Â
- Conducts trending and analysis AV needs and usage to make recommendations. Configures AV systems and services for the University environment.Â
- Identifies problems with AV components and network issues for AV Services personnel.Â
- Maintains the production change control schedules, system documentation and logs, and the network security authentication. Maintains growth statistics, space forecasts, storage libraries, and software and hardware inventories.
- Performs or assists in troubleshooting and detecting unusual production problems. Performs recovery procedures, schedules back-ups, and monitors batch processes.
- Administers and maintains security of operating systems.
- Applies moderate/high levels of experience and skills to support the planning, development and execution of audio-visual productions with moderate supervision.
- Researches, develops, installs, operates and troubleshoots audio-visual systems, such as video conferencing, digital media and desktop and network-based technologies.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
- Associates or Bachelorâ™s degree in the AV field.
Experience:
- Experience setting up, maintaining, and providing customer assistance with AV systems as an AV technician.
- Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting AV systems under pressure.
- Experience in a higher education environment strongly preferred.
- Have a strong technical background in AV equipment; diagnose and resolve technical issues independently.
Certifications:
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
- Understanding of Extron GlobalViewer Enterprise.
- Basic understanding of networking principles and wiring for AV systems.
- Good understanding of signal flows for AV systems.

- Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal communication skills related to the delivery of customer service and satisfaction, including excellent written communication skills.
- Communicate effectively with a wide array of technical and non-technical University faculty and staff.
- Manage multiple tasks/projects and support requests while maintaining focus and understanding of assigned priorities.
- Work well independently and as a member of the larger team as needed.
Working Conditions
- Climb on a ladder to a height of 20 feet.
- Carry heavy hardware such as projectors, switchers, av hardware (30-50 lbs). Individual will be required to be on feet for extended lengths of time.
- Some evening/weekend work occasionally, to meet project deadlines.
