The Merage School develops and equips leaders with critical business and leadership skills needed to succeed through programs that are continually adapted to address the ever-changing social, technological and economic opportunities and challenges in our digitally driven world. We offer MBA programs, Specialty Masters programs, MS in Biotechnology Management, MS in Engineering Management, PhD, and undergraduate business degrees that focus on creative and critical thinking skills, strategic decision-making, leadership, innovation, and collaboration through in-class and on-site experiences with real-world business problems. While the Merage School is relatively young, it has quickly grown to consistently rank among the top 5% of all AACSB-accredited programs through exceptional student recruitment, world-class faculty, a strong alumni network and close relationships with both individual business executives and global corporations. We combine the academic strengths and best traditions of the University of California with the cutting-edge, entrepreneurial spirit of Orange County in the heart of Southern California's Tech Coast. The Director of Development (DOD) for the Paul Merage School of Business is a mid-level development professional who works collaboratively with the Executive Director of Development for the Merage School and University Advancement (UA) to contribute to the development program of the Merage School and secure significant philanthropic investments to support it. The primary activity of the DOD is externally focused to secure private philanthropic support and the DoD's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and meet metrics. The DOD reports directly to the Executive Director of Development, Merage School and is expected to serve as a member of the School's Advancement team, and to also be a highly collaborative colleague with other development officers across the campus. Required: Five years' successful professional development and/or fundraising-related experience, preferably in higher education, OR any equivalent combinations of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.Advanced organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification / avoidance / resolution, and strong project management skills.Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials.Ability to work independently with both school and institutional goals in mind.Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Salesforce or a comparable donor/prospect database system.Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments.Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects and/or deadlines.Ability to meet demanding work schedule expectations. Preferred: Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and / or throughout higher education / healthcare generally.Advanced working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc. Special Conditions Required: May work long hours to meet fundraising commitments.
