Become a part of a dynamic Human Resources team and have a positive impact at Point Loma Nazarene University. We are looking for a Benefits professional responsible to serve as the expert and point of contact for inquiries and requests related to benefits.
Manages the development and administration of the university’s benefits programs including group health insurance, dental, 403b retirement plan, life insurance, disability, PTO, tuition remission, leave plans, FSA/HSA, and other voluntary offerings.
Analyzes benefit costs preparing report for ongoing plan review and evaluation.
Stays abreast of benefit program best practices in similar organizations. Recommends benefit offerings in line with researched analysis and department goals and objectives.
Monitors change in benefits law and regulations making recommendations as need ed to maintain compliance.
Serves as first point of contact to current and prospective employees on benefit eligibility and all plan coverage related inquires.
Manages workers’ compensation process including processing and managing of claims, liaison with health service providers and carrier, and communication of established procedures.
Performs ergonomic reviews, in conjunction with PLNU’s workers’ compensation carrier, and ordering of appropriate equipment according to PLNU ADA policy.
Assists with the campus safety program and plans agenda items for university safety committee.
Services as liaison with university insurance brokers and plan vendors to resolve all customer service and plan related issues.
Manage all communication and processing of employee leaves of absence, coordinating with state disability programs as needed.
Provides benefit orientation to all new employees as part of the onboarding program.
Partners with brokers, vendors and HR team to complete government regulatory requirements including annual 403b audit, Form 5500, compliance testing, 1094-C and 1095-C Forms, employee notifications, etc.
Assists with all aspects of the open enrollment process including plan review, employee communications, annual benefits fair, the enrollment process, and managing benefit premium rates.
Verifies benefit eligibility and all enrollment information, processes monthly insurance invoices and reconciles carrier monthly statements to ensure billing accuracy.
Coordinates with HR systems, vendors and payroll office for the implementation and accuracy of all benefit plans and changes.
Manages the COBRA process and all benefit exit and conversion related questions.
Responsible for Emergency Response training and drills in assigned building.
Completes other assignments and projects as needed.
3-5 years of progressive experience in benefits administration including analysis of benefits designs, managing vendor relationships, and oversight of benefit compliance. Related experience in a university setting preferred.
Professional certification in Human Resources (SHRM/HRCI), preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field, preferred.
Detailed knowledge of federal and state benefit regulations including ACA, ERISA, FSA’s, HIPAA, 403b, FMLA, ADA, and workers’ compensation.
Ability to monitor and maintain benefit compliance with federal and state regulations.
Developed knowledge of California benefit and leave regulations preferred.
Strong analytical skills in examining benefit plans in line with strategic objectives.
Commitment to deliver excellent customer service and foster positive employee relations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to prepare/convey clear and effective written reports, correspondence, and presentations.
Developed computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and web-based applications.
Ability to navigate an HRIS system, familiarity with Workday preferred.
Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects.
Ability to work effectively with a team of HR and Payroll professionals.
