The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University seeks an energetic and innovative chairperson for the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, who possesses a distinguished record of scholarly and professional accomplishments, appreciates the integration of learning, discovery and engagement, and has significant administrative experience. The Chair responsibilities are conducted over a 12-month appointment period. Candidates are expected to exhibit a strong commitment to scholarship and excellence and an open and collegial style of communication. The responsibilities of the Chair include: administration of instructional programs, budgetary management, faculty development, instruction, academic advising, departmental assessment, departmental accreditation oversight, etc. The normal teaching load for departmental chairpersons is six credit hours per semester. Service to the College, University and community are expected. As the academic leader and chief administrative officer of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication has an undergraduate enrollment of more than 550 students and 15 full-time faculty members. The department offers the Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communication degree in three concentrations, including Mass Media Production, Multimedia Journalism and Public Relations. Additionally, the department's programs are accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC).
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) houses the Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, in addition to the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 130 faculty members.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication with an established record of research and publication in the discipline.
Preferred:
Ph.D. in journalism or mass communication with an outstanding record of scholarly and professional achievement in journalism and mass communication is preferred. Also, experience with the program's accrediting body, Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC), and previous experience in fundraising/extramural funding would be a plus. Additionally, significant administrative/teaching experience, preferably in a higher-education environment, with a distinguished record of scholarly and professional accomplishments, as well as integration of learning, discovery and engagement, is preferred.
