The Communications Coordinator provides communications and marketing support to the MSU College of Nursing, reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications. The ideal candidate will be creative and show self-initiative, have experience in journalistic writing, media relations, social media content creation and analysis, graphic design, branding and video production. The candidate must be collaborative and be able to juggle several tasks simultaneously. This position is a hybrid role, allowing for some work to be done remotely and other work being required on-site. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Identify and tell stories of interest throughout the college through various communications channels, including but not limited to, e-newsletters, print magazines, social media and the website.
Build relationships with faculty, staff and students throughout the college.
Lay out monthly e-newsletter.
Draft, shoot, edit and post photo and video content.
Create engaging graphics for stories, initiatives, newsletters and the website.
Brainstorm, organize, draft, schedule and/or post social media content across the college's channels including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube.
Facilitate and record podcasts.
Design fliers or other collateral as needed for programs, events, biannual magazine, etc.
Organize and analyze social media metrics for the college's channels and initiatives.
Organize giveaway/promotional item requests from units within college.
Set-up and monitor paid social media and SEO campaigns, under director's supervision.
Updating the website.
Ability to implement university and college brand standards in all materials.
Other duties as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree program in Communications, Telecommunications, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in internal communications; news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation software; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio presentation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications or public relations from a reputable university. At least two years of experience in marketing and communications, preferably in higher education and/or health care. Experience working with various communications and marketing tools, including Adobe products (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.), Canva, Concrete 5, Facebook Business, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mailchimp, Microsoft products (including Sharepoint), Twitter, YouTube and more. Willing to train right candidate on tools, if needed.
