This position provides leadership and management for the National League of Cities (NLC) communications, marketing, website, social media and visual design functions. Responsible for leading all digital engagement, communications and marketing efforts that include, but are not limited to:
Managing the coordination of internal and external public relations and marketing campaigns, promotional plans, and member engagement efforts.
Lead the direction and manage implementation of the organization’s web strategy
Implementing and managing systems and procedures to insure professional-grade digital products and services that meet the organization’s strategic goals.
Developing messaging and channel strategy.
Serving NLC’s primary brand manager.
Interfacing daily with various stakeholders and constituents, including senior leadership, board members, and elected leaders.
Serve as a member of the Senior Executive Team, regularly providing the CEO and other senior leadership with high level, strategic guidance on issues related to media, brand management, and messaging.
Serving as web administrator for NLC’s digital properties.
Managing external vendors.
Responsible for confidential corporate information, including strategic plans, financial information, risk management situations, and employee information.
Manage the work of a team.
As a condition of employment, NLC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid, and to provide proof of such, by November 30, 2021 or the date of hire, whichever is later.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related field; master’s preferred.
Minimum twelve years progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, media relations, public affairs, web strategy, site administration, website administration and technical support, or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Some direct connection to local government is preferred.
Expert knowledge in industry best practices, including AP Style.
Experience overseeing the work of graphic designers.
Experience in marketing, especially in promoting events.
Experience in producing live events.
Experience in website projects and an understanding of good practices.
Knowledge of marketing research practices.
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. Responsible for managing a team in a hybrid work setting in which some employees are permitted to work remotely.
This position is based at the NLC office in Washington, D.C., and may be eligible for part-time telework.
