CIHEB Senior Media & Pub Relations Specialist - (210001TB)
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute of Human Virology (IHV), Center for International Health, Education and Biosecurity (CIHEB) is seeking a full-time Senior Media & Public Relations Specialist to join our international public health team in Baltimore. Successful applicants will possess excellent written and visual communications skills, demonstrate careful attention to detail, and possess an aptitude for learning new technical material. We seek a multitalented individual who is able to digest complex material on public health topics and create compelling communications products. Tasks are performed in support of CIHEB's global mission and to promote CIHEB's international project activities. The CS will work under the supervision of the communications director in Baltimore, Maryland.
The Center for International Health, Education and Biosecurity (CIHEB) is part of the Institute of Human Virology and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. CIHEB is comprised of a global team of more than 700 personnel in eight countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. CIHEB helps provide care and treatment to hundreds of thousands of HIV patients, trains and educates health workers, builds human capital in the area of new business development and communications, conducts evaluation studies, and implements evidence-based interventions and research studies in Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Create public informational materials to target audiences for business unit communications, including multimedia content for use on the web and social media sites.
Manage production and distribution of public informational materials to a target audience, including the use of social- and multi-media.
Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes tributes information materials to print, broadcast, and on-line media outlets. Maintains printed inventory, databases, and digital archives.
Assist in development and implementation of media relation's daily operations strategies.
Identify client needs and communication strategies to develop project specifications. Define desired outcomes and deadlines. Ensure operational effectiveness within the media relations function to ensure projects specifications and defined outcomes are met.
React to/and interact with media representatives to develop and maintain relationships, pitch university programs and activities, and respond to media inquiries.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree, such as English, fine arts, marketing, communications, etc.
Experience: Three (3) years of related communications, marketing, media, public or client relations experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Facility in composing succinct, clear, and engaging messages and written materials (including impact stories, news posts, press releases, etc.) on highly technical health-related topics.
Knowledge of photography and graphic design with a demonstrated ability to edit photographs and match visual material to complement written text.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud applications (Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Working knowledge of SharePoint is a plus.
Skill in managing social media accounts.
Understanding of international development and health challenges in the African context.
Good project management skills.
Ability to foster productive relationships with other offices within and external to the organization.
