Job Description:To provide leadership and advocacy for the student experience related to involvement and inclusion across campus. Prepare a wide breath of involvement opportunities that contribute to a positive learning community. Direct, plan, organize, and supervise a wide variety of student co-curricular activities and services in the areas of campus activities, student organizations, student diversity and inclusion, and related programs in partnership with various University departments. The Director contributes to the Division of Student Affairs leadership efforts to provide a transformational student experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:1. Provides leadership, direction, and evaluation for all departmental programs and services including supervision of staff, publications, budget planning and maintenance, and overall procedures and guidelines.
- Develops and maintains an outcomes-based programming model, centered on the principles of diversity, inclusion, empowerment, and personal well-being.
- Hires, supervises, trains, supports and evaluates professional staff including the Assistant Director and other related personnel.
- Administers and manages the annual budget to maintain operations within fiscal constraints. Develop budget proposals as needed to ensure adequate financial support for departmental programs.
- Establishes relationships with other offices within student affairs, relevant university functions and external constituents to leverage the resources available to the make most effective, high impact programming and services available to students.
- Provides leadership, supervision, strategic planning, oversight, and assessment for the functions within the area of student involvement and inclusion to leverage resources, services, and programming.
- Provides guidance and expertise on matters related to enhancing cultural competency initiatives as they relate to student success
2. Develops, plans, implements, and assesses strategic initiatives and programs that support the co-curricular engagement of Mount students, including student organizations, student events and activities.
- Advises the Student Activities Council (SAC) and oversee the activities and programs offered by the organization.
- Oversees all student clubs and organizations, active and proposed, in the recognition and registration process. Provide support and direction to student groups, organizations and advisors through leadership, organizational and resource development. Provide leadership training and support to student club/organization leaders across all programs.
- Oversee the planning and execution of an annual leadership awards program for students.
- Provide oversight of the Student Lounge spaces on both campuses, managing general operation and programming and supervising 10-15 Student Lounge employees per campus.
- Make recommendations in developing, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures for student leaders and organizations with a specific focus on equitable outcomes.
- Working closely with the Associate Dean for Student Life and Leadership, ensure that all clubs and organizations receive training and have frameworks to promote cultural competence, anti-racism, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Act as a thought leader for the department and division on diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging to provide culturally competent events and program offerings.
3. Develops, plans, implements, and assesses programs and opportunities for new student and families to successfully transition and engage fully in the Mount community.
- In collaboration with other university departments, plan and implement Welcome Week activities including Student Involvement Fairs and related events and programs.
- Plans implements a comprehensive commuter student program including resources, involvement opportunities, activities, and events.
- Oversees the delivery of programs and events in support of first-year and transfer students.
- Oversees Family Engagement resources, events, and services designed to engage parents and families with the Mount.
- Supports the planning and implementation of new student and family orientation programs.
Other Duties and Responsibilities: - Acts in such a manner as to foster strong collegial relationships in Student Affairs and throughout the college and community.
- Serve on various university standing and ad-hoc committees and projects, as requested.
- Assist in university events and activities development including Admission Events, Homecoming, Institutional Advancement programs.
- Required to work some evenings and weekends.
- Perform other job-related duties, as assigned
Requirements:Knowledge:- Demonstrated knowledge of student development concepts, theories, and issues pertaining to college students and higher education.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in the areas of orientation, student involvement, diversity and inclusion, or student success in a higher education setting.
- Working knowledge of staff and student training and supervision, as well as training and development of student managers and leaders.
Abilities and Skills: - Effectively organize, prioritize and oversee multiple tasks to meet established deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving/conflict resolution skills.
- Exercise sound judgment and decision-making.
- Display initiative.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, an ethnically diverse educational environment.
- Student-oriented, flexible team player who can work in a busy office.
- Strong oral/written communication, strategic planning, public relations, interpersonal, budget management and supervisory skills.
Education: - Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field required.
Experience:- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in administering a college program or service.
- Student Development/Student Affairs program administration preferred.
