Spalding University’s Student Development and Campus Life Office is seeking a student-focused, creative, inclusive, and self-directed individual, responsible for enhancing the student journey through meaningful co-curricular and extra-curricular engagement experiences in support of our vision to build humble, healthy, creative, compassionate, driven, ethical leaders. The Director is responsible for developing programming and education that meets the needs of our diverse student body. The Director will support student leadership initiatives, coordinate campus activities, guide the development of the student center, and manage communication about campus events. The Director will design, implement, and assess educational, leadership, and social development opportunities for students in support of student retention.
Student Development and Campus Life engages the physical health, spiritual wellbeing, personal growth, and professional development of the whole student. Supported by the Dean of Students, Student Development and Campus Life is comprised of student housing, student conduct, student engagement, counseling and psychological services, and the student health clinic. The Director of Student Engagement has the opportunity to create a 21st century student engagement model and strategy that recognizes the unique needs of traditional age students, adult learners, graduate students, and online students. The ideal candidate has a passion for student joy and learning, is unafraid to try new ideas and learn from failures, and can work well independently and with a team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and facilitates small and large-scale events for students, such as performances, lectures, fairs, seminars, trips, and workshops independently and in collaboration with campus partners
Serves as the primary coordinator of recognized student organizations, the primary advisor of the Student Government Association, and serves as lead advisor for the Spalding Chapter of the National Society of Leadership and Success
Supports the onboarding of new Spalding students through the First Year Experience Student Leader Program and collaborates with the First Year Experience Coordinator to execute Engage, our new student orientation
Prepares budgets, monitors expenditures, and completes all paperwork in a timely manner for all RSO and Student Life programs. Assigns and ensures proper maintenance of records. Duties to include managing emails, receipts, invoices, and credit card reconciliation.
Assembles and distributes Campus Happenings newsletter on a weekly basis.
Serves as primary supervisor for departmental work study students and supervises a graduate student assistant to support the work of campus activity programming and advise the Campus Activities Board
Participate in departmental goal setting, serve on assigned committees, and work on assigned special projects as needed by the department.

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, leadership studies, counseling, social work or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution required; Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field preferred from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
Experience in program development, workshop planning, and budget management with excellent presentation skills.
Experience or knowledge of social/cultural barriers impacting student involvement.
Must be able to perform diverse duties and responsibilities in a high-energy environment with the ability to respond to the changing needs and demands of the faculty, staff, and students.
Ability to work nights and weekends and function in an environment that at times can be demanding.
Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, and customer service skills are essential.
Must be self-directed; possess excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and administrative skills; and engage in thought work and collaboration with a team.
Regular or daily contact with administration, faculty, staff, and students.
Some contact with the general public.
Must demonstrate commitment to the success and inclusion of diverse populations as reflected in the environment you create.
