Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing and a member of the Marketing Team, the Public Relations Director is responsible for helping spread awareness of the University’s programs, people and events to external audiences through earned media coverage, and to protect and strengthen the reputation of the University through external and internal messaging, including during times of crisis.
The PR Director writes and disseminates press releases, organizes press conferences and media events, is the primary writer and editor for the Spalding news blog and works closely with the Senior Director of Marketing on supplying content for and monitoring Spalding’s social media.
The position also includes coordinating all-campus internal email communications and working closely with stakeholders across campus to ensure students, faculty and staff are well-informed of day-to-day University events and decisions.
Plan and organize campus press conferences and group media opportunities, including sending media alerts and invitations and writing and coordinating talking points.
Write and distribute press releases to the media.
Pitch news, op-ed and feature story ideas to the media.
Maintain media contact lists for reporters/outlets covering Spalding.
Complete multiple university profile surveys and award nominations throughout the year for various media outlets.
Monitor all media coverage via media monitoring service.
Assist the Senior Director of Marketing on monitoring and responding to social media mentions and comments directed at or relating to Spalding, including some nights, weekends and holidays.
Work closely with University leaders on drafting campus announcements and statements for external and internal audiences.
In coordination with the Senior Director of Marketing and the Chief information Officer, review, approve and distribute all all-campus emails sent from an internal user to all students and/or all employees.
Write and edit multiple stories per month for the Spalding blog and publish them through WordPress to the Spalding website and other web content as needed.
Work with Senior Director of Marketing and Leadership Team during crisis communication situations.
Represent Marketing department at meetings around campus.
Maintain the Spalding Editorial Style Guide.
Assist colleagues with other marketing duties as needed, including on video pieces, or writing or editing recruiting or advertising copy.
