Job Description:
The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching grant opportunities, developing key relationships, submitting funding proposals to support the Correctional Education programs and services, monitoring funded grant status, and reporting on awarded grants in compliance with federal regulations and funding organization requirements.
Research, develop and write inquiries, letters, proposals and other fundraising documents in coordination with Correctional Education leadership.
Develop and nurture key relationships with donors and potential donors (i.e., granting agencies, foundations, corporations, governmental units, correctional education industry representatives, etc.).
Ensure development and distribution of proposal-related documentation to appropriate Correctional Education personnel including compliance matrices, style guides, outlines, schedules, writing guidance and kick-off presentation for proposals.
Coordinate budget development and contractual obligation review with the Correctional Education Business Manager.
Track and monitor proposals, their deadlines, and requirements. Authors or coordinates development of proposal text, graphics and financial analysis. Ensures data is synthesized into cohesive and compelling narrative.
Maintain accurate computer and hard copy records including copies of correspondence, proposals, reports, presentations and notes on communications and visits with donors and prospective donors. Makes these records easily accessible for review by Correctional Education leadership.
Attend and serve as staff support for fundraising events, conferences and other meetings as assigned. Contribute ideas and participate in the planning of department-wide projects and overall development operations.
Provides frequent updates to CE management, University Grants and Foundation Relations department, and other stakeholders as directed.
PERFORMANCEEXPECTATIONS:
Successfully submit grants by deadlines.
Maintain productivity of proposal submissions.
Proposals are approved for funding; specifically, return of 5 times salary in awarded grant funds by end of 2 years.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's in Information Science, Communications, Project Management, Business or related field preferred.
Experience:
5+ years of grant writing/proposal management experience
Skills:
Knowledge of corrections and post-secondary education is preferred.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, computer, and research skills.
Ability to write accurate, compelling narrative that uses grammar and spelling correctly.
Ability to multitask and perform under deadlines and changing schedules.
Ability to organize and balance project budgets.
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong oral communication and presentation skills.
