The Michigan Municipal League (the League) is seeking a Program Coordinator to join our Policy Research Labs team. This group researches and tests the latest trends in planning and community development with an eye on helping our members become more economically and environmentally sustainable. We’re looking for a self-starter who will quickly dive into our mission and develop strong relationships with our members and external partners to provide education and technical assistance. They thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment, are willing to take on new challenges, and can effectively juggle multiple tasks within deadlines. There will be a lot of different people, personalities, and priorities working with this position so being comfortable as an individual contributor inside of a team environment is important. The approximate starting salary range for this position is $49,000 - $54,000 depending on qualifications.

Coordinate technical assistance and special projects to help our members adopt cutting-edge approaches to civic engagement, community wealth building, placemaking, and economic development.
Work with communities and external consultants to help market Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC)-identified sites for new and redevelopment.
Plan educational programming around a variety of topics as part of the League’s conferences and other training events.
Assist in the creation and development of new programming to inspire our members with creative approaches to funding projects and building relationships with the business community.
Remain up to date on current data and emerging trends related to local government policy, placemaking, community economic developing, environmental sustainability, and community wealth building.
Research and write blog posts, magazine articles and case studies showcasing the best practices in Michigan and around the world.
Develop and maintain strong, cooperative working relationships with local, state, and national organizations, as well as with League membership, internal staff, outside interest groups, organizations, agencies, and experts to ensure a strong, collaborative network to serve our membership.
Participate in internal and external committees and attend various meetings and events.
About You: Our ideal candidate will have:
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent education is required. Advanced education or professional credentialing is preferred.
A minimum of one year of experience in community/economic development, real estate development, urban planning/design, public administration, social work and/or community organizing, or a related field is required.
Experience managing grants, contracts and/or other complex projects.
Ability to contribute to an entrepreneurial, positive, team-oriented work environment with a commitment to driving equitable outcomes
Intermediate skill working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong analytical abilities. Enjoys problem solving, communicating, and executing initiatives
Superior customer service and interpersonal communication skills, including strong written, verbal, and listening communication skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple time sensitive projects while maintaining attention to detail
Ability to quickly learn and understand community wealth building goals/objectives to create and execute programs that adhere to this framework
Ability to easily switch gears, bring innovative ideas to the table, and effectively lead and complete projects within deadlines.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with different personalities and individuals at all levels, including senior-level decision makers and local elected officials
