The Social Media Specialist will develop and execute a strategy for Washington University School of Medicine's social media presence and will continually create a vibrant presence for the school on social media, thereby playing an integral role in communicating and fulfilling the schoolâ™s mission. Central to this strategy will be integrating social media with other components of key strategic communications initiatives. The Social Media Specialist will set goals, write guidelines, define voices, educate internal staff and track outcomes. The Social Media Specialist will also provide guidance and resources to school faculty and staff who have operate official social media accounts. There is potential for this position to grow into a supervisory role, overseeing social media coordinators.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Craft and implement a proactive social media strategy to leverage communications efforts and support overall marketing efforts for Medical Public Affairs and the School of Medicine. Work closely with MPAâ™s design, web content strategy, Outlook and news teams to ensure efforts are aligned. Develop engaging interactive social media projects to leverage the social nature of social media, especially projects that let our audiences hear the voices of the people of the school. Develop engaging voices for several School of Medicine social media channels, including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. Ensure that content is regularly posted to social media channels representing the School of Medicine, either by creating and posting directly or by working with coordinators.
Monitor conversations about the School, its people and its business units on social media and update MPA leadership, staff members and others as needed. Monitor analytics on social media campaigns efforts and produce regular reports on outcomes. Stay abreast of social media best practices and monitor social media efforts at peer institutions and apply learnings. Seek out influencers to help share our messages.
As needed, oversee one or more social media coordinators who will create and post content for school social media channels and for selected business entities at the school. Review each post for adherence to standards and accordance with established standards for voice.
Establish and document best practices and standards for all faculty and staff who represent business units of the school on social media. Offer regular training sessions and presentations on social media to members of the school community.
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience working in teams.
Experience working in a complex health care or academic organization.
Bachelorâ™s degree in marketing, communications, or related degree plus at least three years demonstrated experience utilizing the broad spectrum of social media and digital communications channels in support of an organization or for a program for which new forms of communications are a strategic priority.
$45,800.00 - $75,900.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
