Working as part of the engineering schoolâ™s communications team, the Digital Communications Specialist will create and manage content for digital marketing efforts to support student recruitment, alumni engagement and faculty research and recruitment; apply creative energy and technical knowledge to maximize the impact of McKelvey Engineeringâ™s digital communications platforms including its websites, social media and digital marketing tools; help to identify best methods for reaching the schoolâ™s audiences and provide leadership in developing and adopting new media strategies and platforms, including full life-cycle digital development projects.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develops and manages content for the engineering schoolâ™s websites, including identifying and creating content in a way that is appropriate for online consumption by target audiences.
Manages posting of news releases and events and update content throughout school and department sites.
Ensures consistent look and feel by using uniform formatting, imagery and design.Â
Ensures editorial integrity and accuracy for all online content by identifying and fixing mistakes; proof, edit and craft online content in partnership with team members.
Monitors website reports and analytics; compiles and submits regular traffic updates to inform website changes and improve the user experience.
Works with senior web developer to implement new ideas for maximizing the site's capabilities and optimizing search engine optimization.
Provides counsel to website managers in the schoolâ™s departments, research centers and faculty laboratories to help with their digital communications efforts and to ensure incorporation of best practices.
Performs user testing and website usability surveys to access areas for change and improvement.
Manages schoolâ™s social media presence.
Develops and promotes school news and events across social media using appropriate channels and messaging.
Works directly with students and organizations to promote and share the student experience.
Uses analytics to make informed decisions regarding social engagement and to determine effectiveness in meeting the school's goals.
Works with Public Affairs to develop and manage consistent and cohesive messaging and branding.Â
Stays abreast of the state of the art in the industry to bring forward new strategies and tactics
Monitors community engagement with assigned channels and advise on response to public comments in collaboration with others.
Oversees and manages schoolâ™s digital advertising campaigns using digital platforms.
Collaborates with graduate admissions and departments on the creation of content for digital ad campaigns to raise visibility of school programs through paid promotions and search.
Tracks campaignsâ™ effectiveness and make changes based on analytics and admissions data.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Masterâ™s degree with four years of relevant professional experience.
Google Analytics Certification.
Experience with Cascade Server, WordPress or comparable content management system (CMS).
Expert-level understanding of Google Analytics and an ability to evaluate data to make improvements to the online user experience.
Experience in planning, developing content and posting in social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.
Outstanding knowledge of latest social media best practices.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Detail-oriented proofreading and editing for grammar/style (AP Style) and voice.
Basic Adobe Photoshop skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
Proven ability to translate technical topics for lay audiences.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Enthusiastic about new media.
Good time- and project-management skills.
Bachelorâ™s degree in communications, technology, writing.
Three to five years professional experience working in website design and maintenance and in collaborating with developers and designers to launch and extend successful sites.
Experience in SEO maintenance and keyword tracking experience plus familiarity with Google Analytics and other tracking.
Tracks record of managing WCAG compliant websites.
Strong communication: verbal, written and visual.
Excellent organizational skills, including proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, determine priorities and meet deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment with other team members including staff, faculty, students, campus organizations and the community.
$45,800.00 - $75,900.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
