The International Academy of New York (IANY), a diverse and multi-cultural school community which develops culturally astute students who become bilingual in Mandarin Chinese or Spanish seeks an experienced and dynamic individual to serve as Director of Finance & Operations (DoF). The DoF reports to the Head of School and is an integral member of the School’s leadership team. In this multifaceted role, the DoF directs financial and HR activities of the School including facilities management and operations. The successful candidate is a collaborative and strategic partner with both the Head of School and members of the Board of Trustees.
The Director of Finance & Operations at IANY is a multi-faceted role with high visibility and responsibility within a small administrative team. There are some HR responsibilities with this position that will require follow up and coordination with our HR consulting firm.
Manage the School’s fiscal policies, programs, and practices including the development, administration, and reporting of the monthly and annual operating budgets and the short- and long-range financial plan.
Effectively budget and plan for the school’s expenses and prepare funding requests as needed.
Serve as liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, working closely with Committee chair and Head of School in organizing agendas and meeting materials.
Oversee the annual financial and 401(k) plan audits and filings of tax returns.
Manage the daily business operations of the School, including tuition billing, payroll, accounts payable/receivable
Oversee all School operations, including technology, maintenance, security, and food service.
Manage all licenses and certifications necessary for operation of the school and school program with various city and state agencies including NYSED, NYC DOH/DOE, and FDNY among others.
With the Facilities Manager, help plan and direct all replacements and renewals of the physical plant.
Serve as Chair of the Finance Committee and Financial Aid Committee.
Collaborate with the School’s counsel and insurance agents regarding all legal and risk management matters.
Collaborate with the Head of School and other senior administrators on providing leadership regarding employee hiring, termination, and management.
Oversee all facilities rentals.
Provide transparent financial reporting and planning that builds trust among administrators, faculty and staff, parents, and trustees.
Develop and manage internal communications and data sets to effectively track, analyze, and report on financial, admissions, and fundraising areas to the administration and Board.
Advise and oversee the execution of major capital improvements and any other facility construction.
Serve as liaison and primary point of contact between landlord and school.
Onboard new employees
Coordinate background checks
Manage benefits administration, payroll processing, 401(k) management, and PTO administration.
Supports management by providing human resources advice, counsel, and decisions; analyzing information and applications.
Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicating and enforcing organization values.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; CPA or MBA or similar work experience preferred
3-plus years of financial and business leadership
Experience on senior administrative teams, with additional experience working in a start-up environment a plus
Relevant management experience, with specific experience in educational setting a strong plus
