The Director of Inclusion and Diversity Infrastructure and External Partnerships is responsible for all I&D key stakeholder engagement which includes the I&D Infrastructure and external partnerships that support and drive Unum's I&D strategy.
Reporting to the Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer, this position will partner directly with business leaders and the Business Networks to develop and implement function-level strategies and actions that advance the I&D Council's strategic priorities. This position also requires excellent partnership and alignment with the I&D Programming team, Corporate Communications, Talent Management, HR Business Partners, and People and Analytics.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Execute against the I&D strategic vision, become a trusted partner to the I&D Infrastructure and external community partners, improve the employee experience, add value, and be recognized for innovation and excellence in inclusion and diversity within the organization
Responsible for all I&D infrastructure engagement, strategic partnership and management globally to include Unum's I&D Council, I&D Advisory Board, I&D Ambassadors, various Employee and Business Networks, and Cause Committees to build supportive communities for our team and increase their impact on our business
Partner with P&C, Business Networks and their leadership teams to develop specific strategies, goals and metrics to increase the diversity of our workforce and create a culture of inclusion and belonging within each business or functional group
Review business and functional group-specific and company workforce demographic data to make recommendations on goals and objectives. On a regular basis, review workforce demographic data with leaders to ensure accountability
Participate and engage with Unum's I&D Infrastructure to identify and align best practices and activate I&D strategies throughout the organization
Act as a I&D subject matter expert to the I&D Infrastructure by contributing perspective, insights, and knowledge, and taking a balanced consultative and systematic approach to enable the organization to achieve measurable results
Provide leadership consultation to I&D key stakeholders to ensure alignment of Unum's I&D strategy
Provide cultural change in support of Unum's ability to deepen its relationship with key diverse segments across employees, operations, and communities
Primary support for the I&D Council and Advisory Board
Develop and maintain processes and systems to hold leaders accountable for their support, implementation, and eventual ownership of I&D in their business and functions
Work cross-functionally to execute against the I&D strategy, manage strategic engagement, development, measurement, and training of the I&D Infrastructure
Responsible for ensuring I&D infrastructure implement tangible metrics, adhere to I&D code of conduct, assessments, business plans, proposals and deliver tangible ROE (Return on Engagement) to the business
Build meaningful relationships with diverse talent across the enterprise and proactively seek their feedback to inform future programs and strategies
Collaborate with senior leaders to assist in shaping their roles as executive sponsors, champions, and advocates for advancing diverse talent at all levels of the organization
Develop a strong rapport/working relationship with diverse audiences including but not limited to business management, I&D Office, ERGs, affinity groups, HBCUs, external partners, vendors, and community resources
Maintain a strong understanding of business strategy, external best practice and future labor market trends and set challenging performance goals and standards to support achievement of business results
Ensure positive partner experiences and to optimize the strategic value of each relationship for all parties.
Oversee relationships with external diverse organizations, constituencies, and alliances that are significant to the Company's global diversity, equity & inclusion goals
May perform other duties as assigned
8+ years of professional experience in the diversity, equity, and inclusion space with a record of initiating and furthering business strategies and best practices
Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience and credibility as a genuine connector and trusted advisor in an environment where the ability to influence, work across divisions and build relationships is critical
Experience, passion, and commitment for addressing diversity, inclusion, social justice and equity issues and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
Track record of exceeding diversity, equity, and inclusion related commitments, goals and objectives at a global organization with exceptional ability to make inclusive and decisions
Experience designing and delivering I&D learning and development content and experiences
The ability to build strong relationships across the organization to develop a deep understanding of the business and increase awareness and understanding of I&D as a business imperative and drive relevant strategies and initiatives
Ability to operate strategically and translate strategy into operational plans and practical actions
Comfort and experience in collaborating with and influencing both employees and senior leadership teams
Ability to collaborate across business units with diplomacy and build strong relationships with key stakeholders throughout the organization to ensure initiatives are aligned
Exemplary program and project management skills with ability to oversee and deliver across multiple tasks and deadlines; attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines
Strong organization skills; ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and demonstrate agility in problem solving in a fast-paced environment
Ability to establish trust and inspire others

Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with an ability to flex communication styles to effectively partner with different stakeholders
Demonstrated success in using data/insights to develop and evolve I&D strategies and programs preferred.
Excellent written (including editing and preparing reports), oral, and presentation skills
Proficiency with MS Office suite, especially PowerPoint and Excel
Insurance industry and HR certifications and affiliations helpful
