Summary of Position: The Consulting Executive Director of the Garden State Philharmonic (GSP) will help set a vision for the organization, set systems in place, and manage the operation and administrative needs of the Philharmonic’s entities with a primary focus on the professional orchestra and adult community chorus. The Consulting Executive Director will implement the policies of the Board and advise the Board on matters that will contribute to the organization’s success.
Responsibilities: The Consulting Executive Director will be responsible for creating systems for, overseeing, and managing the organization’s operations, including but not limited to concert planning, production, and administration; fundraising budgeting and financial management; marketing and communications; orchestra relations, volunteer development and relations, staff management; educational programming; audience development and community engagement; filming, recording, and streaming concerts as needed. This position is supported by and will work in collaboration with the Philharmonic’s part-time Operations Manager, Finance Officer, and Development Officer.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Candidates should have a passion for classical music, familiarity with the classical repertoire, experience in an orchestral environment with preferably 3+ years of experience in non-profit arts management. The candidate should have excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills; marketing/public relations, concert & event production skills, social media skills & systems management, with a demonstrated ability in fundraising and audience development; leadership and financial management skills; and the ability to manage and motivate staff.
