Plans, develops, administers and coordinates all functions and services of the department. Develops program goals and objectives utilizing the knowledge and application of departmental and University policies and procedures. Responsible for working with the Dean in identifying prospects among dental alumni and stakeholders to cultivate the development of lead gift and high-level major gift fundraising as part of the School of Dentistry’s and University’s comprehensive fundraising program. The position reports to the Dean with “dotted-line” reporting to the Executive Director of Major Gifts within University Advancement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(1) Develop the understanding to manage with the Dean a portfolio of leadership gift donors and prospects for the University’s fundraising initiatives: -Identify, qualify and cultivate prospects among dental alumni and stakeholders while developing timely and effective solicitation strategies. -Conduct personal solicitations. -Steward donors. (2) Collaborate with the Dean in planning and implementing major fundraising initiatives and campaigns. (3) Develop and implement fundraising goal achievement plans that include priorities, outcomes, action steps and timetables. (4) Assist the Dean with the development of fundraising presentations to be presented by the Dean or designee throughout the School of Dentistry’s Stakeholders’ geographic locations. Periodic travel as assigned by the Dean may be required. (5) Work with the Marketing, Public Affairs and Communications staff and the Dean in assisting in the preparation of solicitation and fundraising marketing materials. (6) Work with the Dean, Director of Continuing Education and Alumni Relations to manage and strategize the participation of volunteers including members of the School of Dentistry’s Alumni Board of Directors. (7) Serve as a liaison between the School of Dentistry with university alumni and the Executive Director of Major Gifts within University Advancement. Collaborating with the Dean and the Executive Director for Annual Giving in developing annual fundraising programming. (8) Serve as a liaison and lead other fundraising projects as needed. (9) Fulfill other duties as assigned by Dean, or designee.
Bachelor’s Degree, minimum.
18 months experience in Higher Education with demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, minimum.
Advanced degree preferred.
Previous experience in Higher Education is preferred.
Five to ten years demonstrated successful fundraising or related experience is required with a proven track record in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift donors preferred.
A background in fundraising at a professional school is also preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to learn Raiser’s Edge, ability to understand analytics and develop strategies for achieving goals.
Job may require lifting light weight objects (1 to 10 pounds) with no repetitive bending or stooping. Occasionally lift average weight objects (1 to 10 pounds).
Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office.
Commensurate with experience.
