As an Assistant or Associate Director on our Communications team, you will utilize a creative mindset to develop communication materials that complement, support, and promote the work of the Iowa State University Foundation.
Based on qualifications and experience, a selected candidate may hold one of these job titles: Assistant Director of Communications or Associate Director of Communications.
Meet with and interview ISU Foundation and university personnel, and research and write concepts, proposals and case statements that inform, engage, and motivate major gift prospects, matching donor interest with the needs and vision of collegiate and non-collegiate units.
Meet with and interview ISU Foundation and university personnel and students, and research and write or edit narratives and reports for major gift donors that creatively share their impact on the university.
Manage day-to-day operational aspects and progression of projects including managing processes.
Assist with writing news releases, marketing materials, publications, and other communications pieces.
Education & Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, English, journalism, or public relations.
3-5 years of professional experience, preferable in advancement communications. Due to department functions, prefer experience (professional or academic) in narrative non-fiction, creative writing, or journalism.
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience working for or with a non-profit, specifically institutions of higher education
Communications skills (both written and verbal) and attention to detail are essential.
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills to ensure meaningful and accurate information is communicated are required.
Collaborative style, ability, and desire to work in a team-based environment, a dedicated work ethic, and a positive and professional attitude.
Must be able to handle a number of activities simultaneously with confidentiality and adherence to deadlines and accuracy.
Must be able to develop timelines and manage workload independently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to use a variety of software applications.
