Position Overview: The Editorial Associate time will work as editorial/production coordinator for the Murty Classical Library of India, assist one senior acquisitions editor, and support the publications sponsored by the Director's office.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Editorial Director, the Editorial Associate assists one senior editor with his/her acquisitions, acts as a production coordinator for MCLI, and assists the Director of the Press.
Works with the Associate Editor and Editorial Director to review and edit MCLI translations, coordinates copyediting, proofreading, indexing, typesetting, typography, design, and undertakes other MCLI-related tasks as needed
Coordinates manuscript flow and monitors deadlines: works with authors and on occasion illustrators to ensure that submitted final manuscripts and artwork meet editorial requirements.
Analyzes and enumerates design elements and technical problems in manuscripts for copyediting and production departments; works with authors and Press staff to eliminate problems prior to copyediting.
Helps generate, gather, and transmit information for the biweekly Editorial Meeting and the monthly meeting of the faculty board; drafts Contract Request Forms for new books going under contract.
Sets up and maintains electronic files; archives emails; scans and saves material to shared drives; creates and maintains records in Biblio Publishing Management System (the Press's database of record).
Performs clerical duties, including processing departmental forms, mailing, photocopying; submitting check requests to the accounting department.
Assists other members of the Acquisitions team as needed; performs other duties in support of the department goals as required.
PLEASE NOTE: During the current period of Covid-19 related restrictions, this position may start as a remote position, with the transition to onsite in Cambridge when the office reopens.

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required. Education beyond high school may count toward experience.
Bachelor's degree and relevant publishing experience desirable. Outstanding oral and written communication skills; diplomacy and other interpersonal skills; ability to work under pressure of competing deadlines; ability to multitask, prioritize, solve complex problems, ability to identify and pursue critical paths toward concrete goals; entrepreneurial spirit.
