Media Relations and Events Specialist - (210000TL)
The University of Maryland Department of Neurosurgery is seeking aMedia Relations and Events Specialist accountable toDivision Administrator. Primary responsibilities are to provide professional and administrative support to department events and marketing operations. The position will coordinate day-to-day operations for events and marketing, including maintaining department social media accounts and website.

Serve as a multi-platform content developer to support, manage, and maintain robust online presence through media and social applications and other new media channels.
Assist in the development of media strategy, with emphasis on social media outlets, and guidelines for the University and continue to adapt strategy and guidelines to new applications or media. Evaluate emerging media channels and envision ways that the Department could use them.
Develop and manage written and visual content for the various University media channels.
Create media campaigns for diverse audiences including prospective and current students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, media, friends, advocates, partners, and supporters of the University.
Track and analyze post and campaign efficacy to ensure goals and deadlines are met and that media activities are clearly linked to desired outcomes. Monitor public mentions of University across the social media platforms.
Researches, writes, edits, and summarizes information materials to print and on-line social media outlets. Produce internal communications and monthly department newsletter.
Maintain department web presence and regularly update website content.
Improve and create department website content and functionality.
Provide professional and administrative support to department internal and external event by coordinating day-to-day operations of events or meetings for department.
Coordinate strategic planning and assist in goal setting for several events. Assist in creation of novel approaches to building business such as special events, services or incentives. Assist in the development and implementation of event concepts and processes.
Generate proposals, contracts and other documents to secure business for all services related to an assigned event(s), such as facility, caterer, printers, or speakers. Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts with some latitude.
Provides general professional and administrative duties to support events and troubleshooting issues that arise throughout the event. Assess outcomes and make appropriate recommendations.
Maintain database or other records of clients, potential clients and friends of the University Administer budget for assigned events.
Assist in preparation of promotional and informational items.
Performs other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor's degree, such as English, fine arts, marketing, communications, etc.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in communications, marketing, media relations, social media, public or client relations experience. Prior experience in event or meeting management, fundraising, or development desired.

Hiring Range: Commensurate with education and experience (Mid $50 to $60K)
