The Assistant Sports Media Relations Manager assists in the planning, direction, and implementation of all media and public relations efforts for the athletics department, serves as the point person for LMU Athletics' social media strategy and supports a marketing program to improve and increase audience participation at home athletic events.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the external relations contact for assigned sports, managing and implementing all aspects as it relates to those sports, including marketing, messaging, media relations, game operations, promotions and all design/creative of respective collateral. (15%)
Write, edit, and distribute news/press releases including local, regional, and national media outlets (print, broadcast and digital) and internal university audiences. (15%)
Oversee all game management of home athletic events as related to assigned sports, including content for all media platforms (scoreboards, website, social media, etc.). Work- study students as assigned. Game day staff as assigned. (15%)
Develop and implement LMU Athletics social media strategy, working with teams and monitoring individual sport social media channels. (10%)
Work with Director of Athletics Communications on the writing, editing, and design of all creative materials as they relate to global marketing and communications plans. Creative production to include print advertisements, game day promotion flyers, game day programs, schedule cards and other pieces as assigned. (10%)
Work with Athletics Marketing team to support and execute detailed marketing plan for assigned sports, with focus on ticket revenue programs. Coordinate with Director of Athletics Communications on the implementation of specific sport plans with overall marketing initiatives, goals and objectives. (10%)
Oversee design and updating of the Athletic Department's website as it pertains to assigned sports as well as other assigned areas by Director of Athletics Communications. (10%)
Travel with various teams, serving as the Athletic Department's media relations representative. (5%)
Serve as information, statistical and record keeping liaison with the NCAA, WCC, and other outlets for various sports. (5%)
Additional duties may include special event planning, managing vendors and contractors, and representing LMU Athletics in professional organizations and community events. (5%)
Experience working in athletics in the university setting within a marketing/media relations/sports information office.
Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: creative software, specifically Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), working knowledge of video editing software (Final Cut Pro, Premier), proficient in Microsoft Office software, and experience with NCAA statistical software (StatCrew, NCAA Live Stats). Must be able to type and enter media and statistical information.
Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports incorporating complex, highly technical information.
Experience in developing social media/digital media marketing campaigns. Samples of graphic design work preferred.
Highly developed organizational and leadership skills.
NCAA, Conference, and University Rules Compliance
Conduct all aspects of program in accordance with the rules and policies established by Loyola Marymount University, the Athletics Department, all Sports Conference Affiliations, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Complete all rules compliance information as required.
Participate in an annual evaluation of adherence to rules compliance (LMU, Athletic Department, Sports Conference Affiliations, NCAA) with immediate supervisor.

Typically a Bachelor's degree. Experience in marketing, journalism, communications, media relations and/or public relations preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.
