The studio producer is responsible for the daily operations of Sophie’s Place, our music therapy recording studio, development and creation of patient/family audio and video recordings, pre-production, and patient broadcasting programs. Responsibilities will include implementing and producing media content, operating the music therapy recording studio and all related equipment, and encouraging/facilitating participation from patients and families in all media programs.
Generate new creative ideas for audio and video recordings, broadcasts, media projects, and assigned hospital-wide initiatives specific to Sophie’s Place, our music therapy recording studio.
Demonstrate proficiency in working Ableton, Logic, ProTools, FinalCut, Adobe Premiere, etc. Able to work independently with these software systems and manage an archiving strategy, in addition to providing assistance to music therapy team during sessions with patients and families.
Collaborate with Studio Manager (Music Therapist), music therapy team, Child & Family Life staff, and other hospital staff to develop and facilitate live and recorded broadcasts, including individual and group sessions with patients and families.
Manage media production, including a primary focus on editing audio and video recordings as well as hosting shows, conducting guest interviews and performances, and creating show content.
Demonstrate proficiency with programs like OBS and Wirecast and in ability to work live-stream studio equipment and produce shows.
Manage and create media production in conjunction with patient and family centered-care philosophy and in collaboration with music therapy team and Studio Manager.
Work toward enriching patient experience and satisfaction through developing programs offered through Sophie’s Place in conjunction with the music therapy team and Studio Manager.
When appropriate, collaborate with the music therapists to involve patients and families in the audio or visual recording process producing efficient and quality recordings and debriefing sessions with music therapy staff.
Demonstrate proficiency in recording equipment and production, software, and best practices, including but not limited to audio set-up, lighting, and cameras; maintain all equipment in the studio.
Develop, evaluate and manage studio budget alongside Studio Manager for production and recording equipment and software.
Troubleshoot audio/video problems within recording studio and broadcasting functionality.
Facilitate patient and family participation in media programs and develop resources to inform patients, families and staff about music therapy studio programming, events and participating options.
Assist with serving as initial point of contact for day to day operations of the studio.
Collaborate with studio manager to involve patients and families within the marketing and advocacy process for the music therapy studio program and events.
Build relationships with companies, media personalities, non-profit organizations, etc. who wish to support our music therapy studio through technology, technology based programing, and volunteerism.
Maintain excellent working relationship with major studio donors in conjunction with Studio Manager.
Create a robust volunteer program to ensure efficiency of the studio function and programming, with an emphasis on audio and video recording support.
In conjunction with the studio manager, create an internship program for students to experience music and technology programs, patient relations, and assist in audio and video production of patient projects, performances, shows, etc. Implement and maintain media/production internship program for music therapy studio.
In conjunction with the Studio Manager, train, support and oversee studio volunteers, students or interns
Participate in supervision and team meetings to discuss process improvement related to studio and clinical care as led by the music therapy team.
Identify areas for patient/family and staff education and interactivity.
Analyze and track studio statistics, suggesting improvements as needed; provide monthly reports to Child & Family Life Director and Studio Manager.
Demonstrate understanding of the Michigan Medicine, Child and Family Life, and Sophie’s Place mission and strive to provide patient and family-centered care through initiatives and programming created in the studio.
Bachelor’s degree in a media/production, audio engineering, or related discipline/field.
1-3 years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience related to studio, audio engineering, or audio/visual production.
Experience working with children and families in a pediatric hospital setting with a broadcasting/recording studio, experience with visual production, and knowledge of infant, child and adolescent growth and development.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
