This position works with current Mississippi State University students, prospective students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff focusing on providing financial literacy and training. It also applies for and manages grant programs to benefit under-resourced students.
Responsibilities include providing a financial service in the form of training. The position requires some travel for school visitations; individual counseling with students, parents, and former students; follow-up correspondence; public relations related to student financial education; grant writing and management; and other aspects of student financial aid.
1. Participates in the development of operating goals and objectives for the functional area. 2. Grant writing for the purpose of securing scholarships and/or covering the cost of literacy programs. 3. Completes all reports/correspondence associated with an approved grants .4. 4. 4. Participates in developing effective Financial Literacy strategies. 5. Conducts all Financial Literacy activities and workshops. 6. Provide financial aid counseling to students and parents about all financial aid programs. 7. Prepares correspondence on financial literacy for current and prospective students. 8. Responds to mail and telephone inquiries about financial literacy issues. 9. Maintains all social media activities with regards to financial literacy including the financial literacy website. 10. Develops weekly podcast on financial topics. 11. Work with students that have an outstanding balance and are allowed to return or reenroll in school 12. Assist with Financial Aid Office Orientation program. 13. Manages the Maroon Money Matters mentor program 14. Manages the student loan default aversion program 15. Teaches one financial literacy undergraduate course per semester 16. Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position may supervise graduate assistants and/or student workers along with one part-time assistant; Received from the Assistant Director of Financial Aid

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Minimum Focus Bachelor's degree Marketing, Communication, finance or related field
Experience (yrs.) 3 years' experience in a related field
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a Student Financial Aid Office or other Student Services Office in a college or university setting. Experience in training, coaching, or instructing on financial literacy matters. Experience working in Consumer Credit Counseling, debt management, or financial planning. Experience in grant writing with a focus on obtaining grant funding to support student enrollment/graduation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidate must possess knowledge of federal, state, institutional financial aid, financial literacy, and accreditation standards. Must have the ability to develop financial literacy curriculum and work collaboratively with related departments to develop literacy, financial aid, and debt management training programs. Must have the ability to work in a highly stressful environment; strong organizational, strategic planning, and diplomatic skills; solid commitment to diversity. Must have strong computer skills; strong written and outstanding presentation skills. Ability and willingness to travel.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Physical Requirements: * Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc. * Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines interactions involving emotional issues or stress on a regular basis. * Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 25 pounds. * Job occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling. * Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
